only 3 days in and a problem already, the windscreen washers dont work, they make a noise and a smallest amount trickles out, the bottle is full, when the lights are on the headlight washers work so it wont be the pump, any ideas, also not being uised to a beemer i assume its not something silly like they only work when going along, i have only tried them whilst in the driveway so far

Same thing happened to me. Took it into garage and they fixed it for me... I'm not joking, they told me not to use tap water!! It blocks the jets!! They said to use filtered water or boil the water first!! I'm really not joking.

It is apparently a known problem that normal tap water eventually blocks the jets. What do you expect from a BMW? It does say use only natural spring water in the manual such as Evian or Volvic!!

They are actually telling you the truth there, Paul!

Calcium salts in hard water does gradually form deposits in the water container & will eventually build up & block the jets.

Guys - does it not sound like the pipes to the jets could just have a kink somewhere... the kink is perhaps forming when the bonnet lid gets closed?

Should you not also be using a screenwash of some kind rather than plain tap water? I bought Tesco summer screen wash recently which is actually quite good.

I use it as well Gordon- strangely addictive!

The screenwashes should contain water softeners to minimise the problem.

the thing that worries me is the car is 26 months old and as it was an AUC they MOT's it for me, surely this is an MOT failure, so either this is a coincidence or they have not MOT'd it to the required standards

Oh and they said only use BMW screenwash, but they would say that!! I didn't buy any of course but instead drove to the Pyrenees to get some mountain spring water for the next top up...

I find you can pretty much pick up anything from Tescos these days: black and decker drills, paint brushes, LCD TVs, washing machines, fridges...

Viv, let me put my hand on the table here. I'm a Tescoholic - I'm never out the place, but I've never bothered with a Clubcard. I just don't have room in my wallet for one and it always bugs me when they ask at the Checkout "do you have a clubcard?" The number of points I could have accumulated - I could be a Tesco millionaire

I've got a Clubcard on my keyfob, because my wife says she gets the points if I use it!

I wasn't actually serious about the 135i coupe- I just wondered if Tesco had thought about selling cars, as they seem to sell everything else.

My wife will be after a new car in around the next 6 months. She tried out a 120d MSport & hated the fact that the short shifter was too close to the dashboard. I told her to hold it with the front of her hand, but she said it just wasn't good enough!

I think she's got her mind set on a Honda Civic now

I generally use Moet or Bollinger in my washer bottle, I find the bubbles tend to shift the bugs better then Halfrauds or Tescopoly stuff.

In an actually slightly related vein I have just treated a couple of our cars with Carlack68 glass sealant.

Seems to shed water like the proverbial ducks back, but since putting it on it hasn't rained so I haven't been able to try it in anger yet. Reports on detailingworld suggest it's good stuff though.

Holts Screenwash (£3 for 5 ltrs at Costco) does the job for me. I seem to fill up the washer bottle around once a month. So pouring filtered or bottled water would cost me an arm and a leg.
