Alpina tcu software upgrade for 6at?

Thought I'd make the UK forum aware of this thread in the USA n54 forum.

Sounds like a software upgrade to the transmission ecu to sharpen up changes. Might be of interest to some over here.

Sounds awesome, but I'm not sure if I'm brave enough to dive in and reflash the TCU...!

Decided to give it a go - works beautifully! It now shows the selected gear in all modes (D1-D6, S1-S6 in Sport, M1-M6 in Manual), keeps the revs nice and low with unbelievably smooth shifts in D but shifts exceedingly fast in DS (and M) with no rev flare between gears. I'm very impressed.

Hmmmm sounds very interesting!!

Where did you get this done and does it have any effect on transmission life?

I did it myself using WinKFP, following the DIY linked above. If you're not into coding, I'd suggest talking to your friendly local coder - check the thread on the main UK board for details on who that is.

Fair play and well done. Early cars could really do with improvement although clearly it is off the menu. I would have been trying it tomorrow.

I've just got to grips with pin codes so coding my BMW is a big NO!!

I'll investigate with the local coders

Would this also work on my pre-LCI 330i 'box?

I'm not sure - it might install, but I'm not convinced it would be suitable. RealOEM suggests that it uses the GA6HP19Z, which appears to be the same as the 6HP19TU on the 335i, but the shift map for the turbo engine is quite different to the one for the non-turbo, plus I think the non-turbo has a higher rev limit...

Fair enough - thanks for looking

Just tried it got stuck at the final/programming stage(Apina TCU software loaded ect)....kept on returning error: ECU security check Not bypass (or something similar).

The ECU also said it could be reprogrammed another 62 times...where as in the guides people say it should say 63 times.

I've just had the BMW security update applied...have no idea if that's got anything to do with it.

Will give it another go later on
