Coolant Temperature 98-102?
After reading about failing thermostats, I decided to turn on my coolant temperature reading (hidden menu 7.00) before driving home tonight.
It reached 102C after a few minutes of 80MPH Motorway driving, and dropped down to 97-98C when driving along small 40MPH roads. This seems very high, is it a sign of a sticking (closed) thermostat? I don't get any engine or coolant warning lights though. Could it be doing much damage to my engine? |

Depending on engine, I understand the thermostat opening temperature is 97C. HighlandPete Last edited by HighlandPete; 03-02-2013 at 05:08 PM.. |

I've just noticed something re the coolant temp which might be just the way it works.
Went on a long run and it stuck to 86c. Just for fun i stuck it on cruise and lowered the gear until it was reving at around 3.5k. The temp immediately dropped to around 81. As soon as i returned to 6th gear it went back up to 86c. Also when i parked up on my drive for a few mins it went up to 96c and then when i drove off it went back down to 86c. Is this normal? |
