Radio Malfunction - No sound and can't change source
Randomly, when I get in the car and start it up, the radio will get stuck on the current source it is on, i.e. if the car was left on aux, the radio is stuck on aux. There is no volume even if I turn the knobs and if I try to change the mode, the radio reverts back to the original source. The unit can be turned off, but when I turn it back on, the same problem occurs. I have tried turning off the car, removing the key, and starting back up, but the problem persists.
The problem only goes away when the car is used at a significantly later time in the day, or the next day. Does anyone know what causes this or has anyone had a similar problem? Thank you! (P.S. No - iDrive) |

What year is your car , could be a low battery
What year is your car , could be a low battery
Why because these cars are battery hogs and if they are not driven on the high way regularly the battery doesn't get recharged . Additionally they have the IBS ( Intelligent battery system ) Which allows for various non essential systems to be turned off when the battery gets low . You need to measure your battery voltage to see if this is the problem. A healthy battery will be around 12.6 volts or better if its around 12 you have a battery or parasitic drain problem. If you put in any large aftermarket amps the cars electrical system may not be able to keep up with the additional load . also FYI http://www.bawarec.ru/manuals/3er/e9...3er-e90-12.pdf The IBS is described in the above document . It could be something else but the battery is the first thing to check. About 6 years is the max lifetime on these batterys. Last edited by ctuna; 03-05-2013 at 06:19 PM.. |

Did you get it registered?
Did you get it registered?(the battery)
Also new doesn't always mean good. It wouldn't hurt to check the voltage anyway. Is there a chance the IBS got damaged. You might want to get a error code readout on the car. Last edited by ctuna; 03-05-2013 at 06:32 PM.. |

My '08 touring does the same thing, though it always fixes by turning the car off and on. I've even done it while driving lol, just clutch, hold off, and start it back up hehe. Probably not advisable.
Next time it does it, take your seat belt off while moving and see if the gong works. |

Occasionally, my radio will have a delay when I start the car. It can go up to 20-30 seconds before it kicks on. Until it comes on, I don't get any audio, including the seat belt chime. On other times, the faceplate is completely unresponsive- I can only turn the radio on or off. No other buttons work.
