I had a 325i a few years back, decent cruise to work would have been 28 approx, round town 23-24, average of 25 wouldn't be too far wrong.
Lovely silky smooth engines but no torque, need a lot of revs to do much, overtaking took far too much effort for my liking, sure the noise of high revs was sweet but too much work. |

The M Badge on that 325i must be worth a fair bit...
Anyway I wouldn't pay more than £12k (really would be pushing for £11,500) for that 325i. I love the red though. Personally I'd prob take the 530i from a driving point of view, more kit, more grunt, but the 325i on its looks. |

My one is about 25mpg. But my one is estate and is little bit heavier. On motorway is about 38 mpg on 75-80 mph. Just in town bit thirsty.
Problems I had: Vanos solenoid and is easy to replace Knock signal 2 problem. After change spark plugs is fine now. Problem still here Oil consumption. 1L for about 3000 miles. Engine sound is lovely. Like others says is bit lack of torque, but when you push it is not that bad. My missis using car every day to work and she love it. She complaining about consumption because now she for six month working in different place ( before only 3-7 min and now 20-40 min.) I asked her if she want to change to diesel and she said NO. If I will change it then it will be 330i because now I want bit more power.. And consumption it probably will be the same as 325i. |

I agree with the above that its lacking torque.
Off the line, its plenty quick enough for me, esp. if you take the revs nice and high. Where it really lacks is motorway over takes. Going from say 40-50 up to 70-80 just takes a bit too long. Even dropping cogs to 4th, it feels slow. Great drive over all! When I first bought the car for the first few months I was averaging 32mpg. Now that I am a bit more comfortable driving it, I am sitting at 30mpg average. Thats with 60/40 m-way and stop go town traffic. Would love to move to a 330d or 335i next! Like the idea of a bit more lazy speed :P |

I won't comment on the economy, as I have a historically leaden foot and my avgs tend to be 3-4mpg worse than anyone elses....
What I will say is, especially coming from a 330d, you'll find the 325i very flat feeling. There is a distinct lack of torque (I ordered without test driving and was generally disappointed) and the engine requires working very hard to get moving. Don't get me wrong; it's a great sounding engine, but you need to be dropping gears and making sweet love to the limiter to move along at a pace you'd replicate very easily in the 330d. I found it tiresome after a while. I love to rag, but sometimes I like to waft.

I'd echo the 330i sentiments....
I don't know about the 325i mpg. But my 330 has over the the last 3000 miles of about 70% motorway returned 30.7mpg. That's from an N52. If you went with the newer engine one guesses you'd be looking at more. Even on my recent road trip to Wales around the Evo triangle and encompassing about 200 miles of spirited driving I got 28 out of her. But then as my dad said you don't buy a 6 pot BMW then worry about the fuel economy... ![]() |

I have en e92 '325' with the N53 engine and it gives me about 23mpg, this is with rush hour and town driving mainly, but also go on the motor way. I must say that it does not feel too slugish or slow. I just put it on to sports mode, or use the paddles shifts to drop down gears

Thanks for all the info, it was more the colour wheel combo that caught my eye. The 330D is good fun to drive. I'm moving from %100 motorway driving to London driving and the odd trip up to the homeland. I did see a fully loaded 330i Le Man blue M Sport for 15k might see what sort of deal I can get

Not sure when the engine was upgraded (2008 maybe?) but a 325i with the N53 direct injection engine produces way better economy figures than those quoted so far in this thread. I get lower 30s around town and 40+ on motorways...

I average about 26-27mpg just pootling around. Up to 41mpg on an a road, and down to about 22-23 if doing nothing but town driving.
It does need you to stir the engine up a bit to really get moving, but it sounds lush and is great fun. I genuinely love mine. |

I use mine everyday and I think for driving too and from work and a bit on the weekend the 325i is a nice drive (auto), its averages 28 round the doors and more on a run. 330i would be nice but not able to use the extra power on the roads.

Another vote for 330i. It is the pure version of the e9x series as BMW intended and designed. I adore the power delivery and the sound of the naturally aspirated six.
