I was quoted that for the SERVICE Extended warranty (Oil change, brake pads, etc.) there is still another ~$3000 for the Bumper to bumper PARTS Extended warranty (fuel pump, A/C, etc.). That's how it was explained to me.

My dealer (BMW of Charlottesville) just yesterday sent me a flyer for extended warranty discounts. '06 or newer 3-Series still under warranty is quoted at $1,785.75. Regular price is $2,095.00. Prices good through Oct. 31. The flyer says BMW of North America is offering the extended warranty. Contact your dealer and see if they are offering the same.

How many years/miles is the extended coverage good for?

It extends the mileage to 100,00. It doesn't say how long the period of time is extended.

If it's bumper-to-bumper, that might be worth it. I suspect that any significant thing that fails on the car would cost that much to repair. If it's just scheduled service, not so much...

Do you have to purchase the extended warranty at the time of purchase? I always thought you could purchase it anytime before your current warranty expires? Or am I trippin

I got an email saying if I'm interested to contact the dealership. I don't have enough info to do the analysis, for example, what does have to be done maintenance-wise, and what is likely to need repair? Then, what is excluded? I find that in general, extended stuff excludes so many things. That "protection package" excludes bumpers and ground effects. Nice, because where the **** do they anticipate dings/scratches/touch-ups?

I'm guessing that nobody gets rotors/pads replaced in 4 yrs./50k, right? So no big deal that BMW advertises that it's included. I changed my front pads myself on my Japanese stick and at 70k the pads were 50-60% worn.

Like to see if someone has analyzed the extended maintenance and/or warranty.....

I looked into and bought the ext. MAINTANENCE plan but did not buy the ext PARTS plan. My understanding is that the brakes will be replaced somewhere between 35-50k mile (once in norm BMW warranty period). They cont. to need maintanence every 35-50k miles as per my SA (he could be wrong,..IDK). I drive alot of miles on my car ~20k/year so I bought it thinking there is a good chance to get 2 more sets of brakes out of this MAINTANENCE warranty plus all oil changes etc (maybe I can squeeze a set in at 99900 miles). I'm also pretty sure it includes rotors as well. It was ~$1200 at time of purchase. This may still be too much $$ for the amount of maintanence I get but seemed reasonable to me because of the labor and parts that are likely to increase in price.

I did NOT buy PART warranty as this was $3k and would require that something break or need repair in only years 5 and 6 of ownership or between 50-100k miles to make it even possibly worth it. Furthermore, it would have to total more than ~$4200 in that time period to make it even worth considering. That number comes from assumption you have $3k NOW and invest in a conservative 7% return liquid investment that you can utilize when the repairs are needed in year 5 of ownership. Personally, I'll take my $3k and put it to use (at 7%/year) until if and when I need it. None of my prior 4 cars have needed major repairs until at least years 7 or 8 so I'm gambling I won't have issues on this one.

Bottom line,...you HAVE to maintain your car but you MAY not have to repair it in years 5 or 6. It's a gamble.

Just my .02.

i'm going to look into this in the MD/DC area. I think a 100 mile warranty would be a great idea for the 335's. I already have my car in getting the steering gear box replaced. I have no idea what this would have cost but i'm sure its not 50 bucks. Hell if the fuel pump dies the extended warranty would pay for itself.

Anyone have recommendations on this in my area?

Any advice on what is a good price for extended Maintenance and Warranty?

Would appreciate the prices people have been able to negotiate on both the extended maintenance and warranty. I'm going in to pay for my ED e92 335 this weekend and I want to have some numbers to negotiate with.

Thanks in advance

I think I was quoted $1250 for the extended maintenance and $2750 for the extended warranty with a $50 deductable.

Seeing what I had to pay repair wise for my 97 E36 M3 the extended warranty price isn't bad....but I'd hoped to do better. I'm gonna pick my car up in a week, so I have a little time to work the finance guy on it.

Thanks Sideshow.

Good luck to you. Which dealership are you buying your 335 from?

I'm dealing with Fremont BMW
