What has gone wrong with your e9x?
Hi.
Thought I'd start a thread about things you have had to spend money on /have fixed over and above servicing, tyres, fuel, mods etc. Could be useful to all e9x owners or prospective ones as the cars are getting older now. I have looked for a similar thread but couldn't find (prob not looking hard enough).. Anyway.. From a selfish perspective , my car has now done 110000 and I want to know what stuff to look out for, whether to sell it etc. I suspect I am not alone. I know there is loads of threads about all sorts of stuff like this ..but this focuses on stuff we should be aware of as the cars mileages increase. Prevention is better than cure of course. So....I'd be very grateful if peeps could post up some data / info on their ownership in a similar format to mine below... Model :e90 330i se auto 55 plate. Mileage: 110000 Owned mileage :83000 Problems: Water pump replacement at 97k. £500. Common fault at mileage. Leaking petrol filler pipe at 70k. £100. Common fault if always brimmed. Clogged screen washers 60k. £100. Common fault if using non BMW wash. Peeling finish on drivers door handle since 23k. Not fixed. Verdict : Go on let's have em... = |

Thought I'd make a little contribution
Model :e92 325d 57 Plate Mileage: 73000 Owned mileage : 15000 Problems: Front bumper had obviously been scrapped on a few kerbs before I bought it - tied back on with cable tie (it was hanging really low..) and just used touch up paint on the underside to remove the grey-ish look. DPF Warning (Removal & Remap) - 69,000 - £750 (Should have done this sooner!) Line of dead pixels on radio - 69,000 - Free under AUC (I think around the £150 mark off your own back) EGR thermostat (should have checked this first in hindsight) 71,000 - ~£35 Main Thermostat (Bought the part but not fitted yet) 72,000 - £42 Verdict : Worth every single penny. |

2008 335i coupe 56, 000 owned since 2010. I've done 30, 000
Rear windscreen due to bad radio reception-warranty Headlamp washer, who hasn't? - warranty Actuators faulty meaning new turbos- warranty Front wing repaired as dealer scratched it- dealer paid Injectors. Not faulty but under recall - warranty A couple of rattles and a headlamp washer fixed/replaced £<100 Broken spot weld bulkhead- warranty. This must have been a huge claim. Spent two weeks in the garage and the windscreen was broken taking it out. That would be about a year since been near dealer. |

2006 335D E92.. owned since Mid 2012 and currently at 53k mileage - I've done 10,000 off that.
Apart from the usual servicing parts (3rd oil change) including oil filter, air filter, fuel filter, break pads and discs all round - I've been very lucky in fact and nothing major has gone wrong whatsoever! One thing that is worth mentioning is that a rear wheel incurred 2 small hair cracks which resulted in a flat tyre couple months back, however Ive got that profesionally welded up, threw on some non RFTs and it's a sweet as peach! |

Model: 2005 325i SE with sport pack
Mileage: 69000 (62000 when i bought it) Only had mine a year. But in that time, bugger all has gone wrong. Did an air con top up last summer, and I think one of the drop links is starting to get a little rattly. But so far, fuel aside, the car hasn't cost me a penny. Something to be said for the naturally aspirated 6 cylinder engines! Last edited by shrink; 03-11-2013 at 03:16 PM.. |

Mileage: 40000 Owned mileage :0.5k Problems: This is the kind of thread which I want.. I have just bought a 330i (pics to follow after my moderation period).. And I feel like there is something wrong but I am not sure what.. I want to investigate anything that could be wrong in the 2 months I have warranty left... It looks like the car is a bit smokey (normal fumes but a lot) The rev counter has also been a bit bouncey The car is an auto and the other day I was in traffic and was creeping and the breaking was a little juddery... These could be nothing but I am very particular with my cars which I am sure you all understand |

(Fronts still the same unknown make) 58000 miles ABS/DTC fault. Replaced new (used) wheels with tyres and fault gone ( touch wood) 56000 miles ELV fault, but was working fine and after reset with DIS is all fine ( touch wood) 67000 miles replaced exhaust VANOS solenoid (I think Thant what was giving me troubles as above with cutting engine off and running poorly) 68000 Knock signal 2 faulty. Replaced spark plugs and its fine. (Touch wood) Ticking engine noise only once. (I blame car park at my missis work car park. It's up hill.) Poor oil consumption. Great idea for a thread and highly useful
Model: e90 330i (N52) M Sport manual 57-plate. Mileage: 78,500 Owned mileage: 2,700 Problems: Corroded window trim - not attempted fix yet but have bought a can of spray paint for £8. Started smoking heavily under load at 77,200. Spent a week at auto electrician but no faults displayed. Unplugged connector into airbox then reconnected and all was well. Cost £80. That's it. Verdict: love this car! So refined but so quick when you want it to be. Could do with being a tad louder...

Model: '05 E90 330i (N52) Exclusive manual
Mileage: 68 500 km Owned mileage: 21 000 km Problems: Rattling noise from engine (not HVA) which seems to be a pinging problem that will not go away no matter what I do and no errors have come up when taken to the agents or other specialists. Engine performance is also not great especially at lower revs and it has the occasional hesitation when accelerating. Horrible to driving in town or in traffic. Interior soft touch is not looking good next to the seat belt clips. Since the seat position was changed when it went to the agents have not been able to find a comfortable sitting position (manual seats). Verdict: Have lost interest in this car to be honest, been suffering with this pinging noise/problem since roughly this time last year and spent a fair amount of time and money trying to sort it out. Seems like these N52 engines are pathetic compared to the older M54 engines. So I doubt I will have this car for very much longer. |
