Water under the lacquer on 313 alloys

Has anybody else had problems with water under the lacquer on 313 wheels? i took my car to local BMW dealership today for a replacement tyre after only owning the car for 4 weeks. When car came to be collected i noticed that three of the wheels had water bubbles under the edge of the rims of the alloys, they took it to the bodyshop and explained that the wheels had been refubished by the dealership i bought it from and said they had not adhered the lacquer to the edge properly and when they jet washed it the water went under the laquer. now i have two BMW Garages arguing against each other trying to blame each other, but my thoughts are that the alloy wheel should be able to withstand a jet wash, any views would be appreciated? either way the wheels need to be repaired and i am not paying for it.

Nobody had any issues at all with the finish on the genuine 313 alloys?

Water shouldn't get under the lacquer any only will when it is damaged.

Seems a bit odd that the water got in right after new tyres were fitted.

Could you post pictures for people to see?

I wonder if they have damaged the wheels and the bubbles you now see are actually spots they have tried to re-lacquer.

They're a total nightmare. Even the local dealer attached bodyshop advised me that the 313's would look crap after two years on the car. Pity as when new they look mint.

Mine are fine so far after 8 months. I just wash them with soapy water, and keep away from any acid basted cleaners.

Genuine 313's on my 1 series, had them almost 4 years, never done a winter season so kept away from salt, and it's only the last few months of last year that 2 of the wheels (both rears actually) started to show some "milking" around the BMW roundel in the middle.

I can only assume that when a tyre fitter has knocked out the roundel to balance a wheel after fitting a new tyre they have perhaps chipped the edge of the lacquer just enough for some moisture to get underneath and hence produce the "milky" effect.

I used to jet wash my wheels once a week and didn't have any problems, it does sound like yours may have been refurbished and not to the same standard as when they were new...

It really doesn't take anything for even genuine 313's to start corroding - a small stone chip will do it, and god help anyone who needs a tyre replacing on these!

Are these a polished face / machine turned.

I had some polished Rotiforms on my R32 and they suffered from lacquer worm.

A friend of mine who is a professional retailer advised me that lacquer does not adhere well to polished metals and will usually get problems sooner or later.

Can i ask why you say god help anybody need a tyre replacing??

Low profile tyre, run flat - stiff side, incredibly difficult to get off and on wheels without damaging the rim, once it's nicked, even a tiny tiny nick, water gets in and the wheel will need refurbing soon enough

They're a pain.
