Installed my boost gauge :)

Finally got around to getting the boost gauge installed a few days ago...

Here are a few quick pics I took. Didnt come out as planned as there is not enough room underneath for the ashtray cover to close  I might try a 90 degree elbow and see how that works but I am satisfied for now

Dont mind the gauge on the left. Its just an el' cheapo air/fuel gauge I stuck in there to cover up the hole until I get the wideband gauge.

It doesn't look bad. It's unfortunate that the lid won't close, but it looks better than A-pillar or over the gauge cluster designs. It's similar to the location for the Evo 8 gauge pack.

Cool mod. I guess I just dont know enough about turbo to know HOW this information is helpful while driving. What can you do about it if its high or low? I know I'm a newbie and NEVER tuned a car before so be gentle on your .

BTW ,...why couldn't you just put a spacer of some kind (plastic or whatever) and put it between the gauge mounting bracket and the underside of the ashtray to make the door close. This would setback the gauge and bracket a few millimeters and looks like may be enough to close the door. I had to do something like this on another car to get an after-market stereo to fit. Worked beautifully. Maybe your solution?

I just dont understand why people want to put a gauge down there. You litterally have to move your eyes off the road(cant even use peripheral vision) to see it. And when you want to see it normally is when youre at full boost and should have your full attention ON the road.

Show me a better place that isnt tacky and out of place. Some people put them in the glovebox so I guess thats pointless too? I dont need to look at the gauge 24/7... I mainly put it in to see exactly what my car is boosting in general. Its better to have one even if its kind of out of sight than not to have one... but to each its own...

edit- I saw you have yours in the far left a/c vent. Thats cool and all, but as sucky as the E90's a/c is i'd like to get all the air I can get. Even that is out of sight for me.

I had the gauge there in my Evo and it wasn't a problem. +1 on the vent location. Looks nice, but we need A/C!

Tacky and out of place is subjective. Is having gauges a fashionable thing or a form of function? If its the latter, then it doesnt matter if its built into the steering wheel itself as long as it provides the most amount of information possible. Unless you have a memory function on your gauge, I feel its pointless(and dangerous) to have it out of your line of vision.

I didnt lose any air circulation when I put mine in the vent.

I do the same thing... I noticed that when its like 90 in the car, and I have it set to 75, it blows kinda cool air, but if I jack it down to 65, it blows ice cold air... Also, I dont use auto mode, I control the fan manually, so basically setting it to 65 and controlling the fan manually seems to get the car cooled down much faster than just 75 auto.

sorry, off topic...

try telling it to recirculate air, most of the time its set to draw from the outside, that can easily drop your vent temps
