removal of interior door light strip
does anyone know how to remove the light strip at the top of the door on an e92 I presume the door card has to come off but are the strips clipped or melted in?

The light strip is a plastic tube which just has one led clipped at the end. If you're looking to change colour etc then you only need to change the led at the end

looks like quite a job if you mean the plastic part. the door card has to come off and the rear of the strip is heat welded on. these have to be cut off with a dremel or the like refitting is the problem as the strip has lugs which are melted when fitted once removed the lugs cannot be reused and it looks like new strips will be necessary I have a set of new black ones if of interest

I've done this.
If you're just replacing the light strip remove the door card and the light strip unplugs and you can remove it and replace with a new one. If the plastic strip needs to come off - that's not as easy as its melted plastic to fix it. I bought a new door card when I ripped the leather (oops!) but bought the wrong one off ebay without the light strip. Drilled the old one out of the broken door card and managed to screw it on the new one after cutting holes in the leather to get the fixings through. Used screws and washers to secure it - I don't suggest you do this! |
