Chlorine + DPE Wheels=oh Sh*t
Long story short i walk out to my car this morning and see white dots all over the lower part of the lip on my wheels and all along the lowest end of my car. I start washing the car everything comes off the paint ok but then i get to the wheels. I try polishing them and the dots dont seem to come off.......Turns out my dad was spraying the driveway this morning with chlorine to kill all the weeds.....really sucks
He says hell pay to get them refinished but i really dont want to have him do that.....should i take it to a professional detailer first? |

Odds are a detailer won't be able to fix it. Which DPE's do you have? If the lip is coated the detailer *may* be able to polish it. If it's not coated you're screwed.

I hate situations like this... You can't charge someone like your dad, considering how much they've spent for you, but you're still assed out. Take it to a pro, but you may have to get them refinished. Probably ate through the paint/clearcoat.

Hell yeah, The OP is in Florida... Home of the Silly assed law suit...
Gotta ask the OP though... How about just heading to the local Lowe's and buying Pops some freaking roundup???? Works better, much safer and last time I checked it even comes with a wand type sprayer so Pops doesn't get it all over the place...

Does it look like an oxidation reaction? Do you have photos? Are you sure he was using chlorine and not muratic acid?
I had a clearcoat defect with my Work wheels. When I had the car washed, some acid they used actually accelerated the problem. I have since had the clear coat chemiclaly removed, and the lips shine up even better than before, but they do require more maintenance now. |
