i no there are many people that dont like this look but i am running a little bit of stretch due to putting my original tyres onto my new wider wheels which are 8.5j front and 9.5j rear. so at the moment im running 225/35/19 on the front and 255/30/19 on the rear. it gives a little stretch look which i like.

i need new front and am not sure wether to try 215 and have more stretch and do the same on the rear.

has anyone done this and has any pics to show me, and will this make the handling of my car a lot worse?

im thinking about stretching them more so i can lower the car more and space the wheels out a lot more....

Any ideas???

Personally I think 225 and 255 is as stretched as you'd want to go. Any narrower and I'd guess you'd be compromising on the ride not to mentioned the tyres won't be offering the rims much protection.

All personal preference of course as I'm sure it can be done. If anything I want fatter tyres and will be going for 235-265 tyres next month and will be getting some 10mm or 12mm spacers too

I've got the following wheel specs and I'll be putting the following tyres on..

Fronts - 8.5J.. 215/35/19
Rears - 10J... 235/30 or 35/19

I want some nice stretch..

I know for most people, it's too much stretch for daily... It'll be a MASSIVE stretch even for me...but when you don't have to worry about a family for now, I say go for it ... the above will be my set up for show!!!!!

Get em on can't wait to see it in person now...

I have to say I do like the look of fatter tyres though... but it means you can 'slam' the car.. then you're going into 'stancewerk' territory!!

This is hardly a stretch mate.
I am running a 265 on my 10.5" tyre and it is not that bad.

People run 215 or 205 on the front and as low as a 235 on a 9.5"

You have plenty of room to play with.

im not to worried about rim protection cause im not planning on going near kurbs i stay well away, and dodge pot holes. yeh im not sure what spacers i need yet. cheers mate

yeh i no what you mean i want it to notice and get looked at thats major stretch on the rear man gona look sweat, but then do u think could be dodgy with so much power in the rear wheels. some ppl say bout the tyres ripping off the rims or is tht just rubbish?

so we would be running same stretch on front then mate need to see what yours looks like haha

but for me at least this just looks like you've fitted the wrong tyres. It also looks kinda dangerous. Reminds me of teenagers' jeans with the crutch down to the knees and 3" of designer skivvies.....the penguin look

If i was you i would just run a small amount of stretch.
If you go with really stretched tyres I think you need the whole package to pull the stanced look off and you would need big spacers and a big drop to do that.

There are standards for rim and tyre combinations. ETRTO (European Tyre and Rim Technical Organisation) spell out the measuring rim for a given tyre size and the acceptable tyre to rim variations. So there is an optimum tyre to rim combination and an allowable tolerance. Many combinations are outside the safe working range and viewed as dangerous by the tyre and safety industries.

Plus I imagine we buy a BMW to try and get optimum handling/ride balance and then we see tyres well outside their safe working parameters.

British Tyre Manufacturers’ Association reminds us:

Note: A change to the original vehicle specification could invalidate your motor insurance. Consult with your motor insurer prior to any vehicle modification.

Applicable legislation includes Construction & Use Regulation 63 re bodywork and spray suppression and the Road Traffic Act section 40 (vehicle in dangerous condition).

I just have to ask.... why?
