First unusual waxing since begining of the winter

Hey all,

I've had some wax at home for quite a long time but never got round to using it. The car got first waxing after around 5 months or so. Here are two pics of the very liquid :

Has any of you used such technique of waxing a car ? Seems very strange !

Here are a few pics before waxing...

And after the car was waxed a few hours ago...

So what are your opinions ?

I would like to try some normal waxes, for example :

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1607840366...84.m1423.l2649

Or this one with around 1,600 sales on eBay :

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2608584455...84.m1423.l2649

Any comments are warmly welcome

Hope you like it

I just cant imagine that so many people have bought the product !

Thanks for the website, there are a lot of quality products I can see Some of them are really highly priced, but would they be any better than the cheaper ones Ive never tried before.

I have never seen a wax like that? Usually your car has to be dry! Not sure how durable it would be?

Personally I use hard waxes instead of liquid waxes...I really like the Autofinesse Desire or their new one Illusion!

Ive also never seen such wax before but the result is not bad I would say If there is no sun out this means you cant really use normal wax after washing your car as you would need to dry it yourself first. The weather today was not sunny at all but the wax did a good job on wet so its easy to keep your car shining even in bad weather conditions

The one you are using is around £100 for a little can. I suppose it doesnt last for long, does it ? The result should be fabulous though

Desire costs £120 for a pot, but it is good value for money as to do a whole car you only use a tiny bit. Ive done my whole car and the tub still looks like its never been used! Plus it lasts upto 6 months. But depending where you wash your car, or how you wash it etc...id say 3-4 months? I first sealed mine with their sealant and then waxed it. The results are fantastic!

Illusion costs £75 but is meant to be more glossy but slightly less durable.

The ones you used seems to show good results from the pics, hard to tell on silver though. However, with how quick & easy it was to apply, you can go wrong!

You could spend £££'s on a wax but that doesn't mean you'd get a better finish as it's all down to the prep really.

The whole point of waxing is to seal and protect the work you've put in during the decontamination and polishing stages (this is where the finish comes from).

For a silver car I would be looking at sealants rather than waxes anyway

Megs no7 works well on Titanium Silver.

If you pay £120 for the Desire here I found a cheaper one for you :
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Auto-Fines...item27d0d43c31

I usually hand wash the car once a week or sometimes once a two weeks so I would say the little pot would not last for long especially in those rainy conditions met most of the year. I will definitely try one of these expensive waxes Cheers

Bilt hamber waxes are good - I've used Finis wax and auto balm, the Hydra wax is meant to be great if you like to do it a lot, but haven't tried it personally.

As said, it's all in the prep work, de tar, clay, polish, glaze... Otherwise it doesn't matter how expensive your wax is, it won't look good.

I'm trying sealant route this year, Jeff's Werkstatt acrylic kit. Did it two weeks ago and it looked ace. Just need some decent weather so I can wash it again....

How small are those alloys?!

Head over to AutoBrite Direct. They have formulated many of their own products and I find they're very good. Imo with silver you want a nice wet look glaze...

Yes, there are these machines for polishing for around £200 and also special polishing paste. I would love to buy such stuff but how would I look polishing my car on the car park in front of my flat ?

Ive never been into this topic in depth. Glazes, waxes, sealants and all other stuff gives me not a lot of idea why and when would I use these products

So if you are saying the Megs No 7 which is a glaze would do the best job on a silver car I will buy it and try it out.

Thank a lot !

If I had the money I would buy all of the waxes and other products reccomended here and try them out Unfortunately I dont have a lot of money so need to pick just 2/3 as you are saying the prep work is very important otherwise no matter how expensive is the wax, the result will be poor. Thank a lot

PS. These alloys are Genuine Style 156 BMW wheels and are indeed very small, just enough to having 4x 300mm brake discs 16" are not bad I think anyway, great comfort and also very cheap tyres I am running 195mm tyres all round =] You do not need to worry to kerbing them as well lol, but I dont wanna get into the bad habbit so will not kerb the summer wheels

Oh no no no, I didn't pay £120...I know the owner and got a really good deal on a load of products together

This was the result after 2 coats of Auto Finesse tough coat sealant and 2 coats of desire...

Light cars, specially white cars usually can just do with sealant and don't really require waxing...

WoW, this looks so nice. Applying so many coats must have taken you at least 12 hours or so, but if you did the job with another person significantly less I would think ?

Ive been recommended a glaze by a forum member and you are recommending a sealant for my silver car. Hmmmm, so which route shall I go ? I really have no experience in this stuff so I will appreciate more help lol

PS. You have the same BMW logo as me on the bonnet =]

Machine polishing is worth learning though.
My ST looked great in the showroom until i took it home and stripped all the fillers they had used [probably SRP]

I did it over a few days as I wasnt driving the car at that time so had it parked inside the warehouse so added a layer of sealant when I came in the morning then when I left in the evening and then the same the next day but with wax.

To be honest, glaze or sealant will be fine...I think (could be wrong) but the sealant would be stronger against the elements.

Main thing is the preparation...You really should clay the car first to get rid of any contaminants so the paint feels pretty much like glass, then maybe a little polish if you want to get rid of any swirl marks, then seal or glaze...

Agreed! Feels good once you see the improvements from machining! Just bought a paint depth gauge last week, will be machining my car when the weather gets better!

You can go crazy with this and spend a lot, but for me -

Get a clay bar and some lube (quick detailer). Meguiars do a kit for about £25' or buy separately.

Poorboys white diamond show glaze is phenomenal stuff, not expensive £15 or so

Then a wax of your choice, as I said bilt hamber is good or collinite for longevity. Collinite 476s isn't expensive, but lasts. again about £15.

Ohhh, this looks so bad, but you sorted it nicely huh Thats the problem with darker colour cars. Dark cars are so hard to keep clean and all of the scratches, paint swirls etc are visible badly... I am happy our car is silver lol

Yes, you could spend a grand if you went crazy with it.Your route is nicely priced and I bet it gives great results if you do it right.

So Ill get some :
Step 1 - clay + lube product
Step 2 - polish product
Step 3 - glaze or sealant
Step 4 - wax

I hope its the right order lol

Thanks a lot !!!!!
