Right, that time has come around now DXB the 335d needs her first service

now thinking forward to the future, is it better to always use the same dealer for every service??

i mean at the mo i have two local dealers, not fussed which one i use and may alternate

is this detrimental to the re-sale value??

what should i look out for and what shall i expect from this first service?? any freebies??

I received an invite this morning as well, trying to resist the urge at the minute. The other half has even said "it`s up to you"

Peppernick takes delivery of his on March 1st and there`s a lad on EvoT who takes delivery in a few weeks.

Ok, looking at the figures for the M3 (££££, not performance figures) - the only option I would theoretically add is the 19" wheels (and carpet mats at £75). This takes the price to just about £52,000.

Now, if I ran one of these for two years, keeping mileage low as I usually do, I reckon I could ask in two years time for at least £45,000 back for trade-in. This would mean the car would effectively cost £7000 + running costs (petrol, tax). Do you think I'm being optimistic with the retained value? I did read somewhere (Australian car website I think) that Europe seems pretty split over the new M3 - some journalists like it, and some don't... but I would obviously be counting on the fact it would be liked and therefore seen as desirable.

I did some quick "Bar maths" with the other half over in Ireland and rekoned on it costing £15-18 K over 2 yrs. The downside at the minute is that there is already talk of the CSL only being 9 mths away.

I`m holding judgement on the reviews at the minute untill its properly on the roads but in all honesty its not going to be a Lemon............. is it ?

So you think after 2 years, a £50K M3 might drop to lower than £40K - thats quite a steep drop.

I certainly will be interested to hear what Top Gear/Fifth Gear have to say about it. They might effectively put the final nail in the coffin for it

Doesn't matter using different dealers so long as its BMW. I've noticed big differences in service and have moved dealer several times. I now use the one at Cobham.

I would be massively, massively surprised if a new M3 was still worth £45k (as your sale or trade in value) after 2 years, regardless of low mileage.

If a dealer needs, say, £3k in each car they retail he'd need to 'for sale' at circa £48k. unless BMW are going to severley restrict the numbers of these cars I cannot see anyone paying just £4k below list for a 2 year old car, I really can't.

I hope you can prove me wrong because I'd be chufffed if you could make the maths work and get yourself in one. But, knowing how BMW like to flood the market with their M cars, I think two years is a long time (possibly too long) to run a car and expect minimal losses.

I think the poeple that are taking delivery pre-Christmas and selling within 6 months will be cost neutral, those running for a year or so may loose a couple of thou. Much after that, there'll be plenty on the forecourts, it'll be buyers market and the values will fall accordingly.

All in my humble opinion, obviously.

When you book your car in for its service, ask to see what else is coming up as some elements are time based not mileage based.

The dealers will probably only do what the computer says needs doing now, they won't look ahead and see what needs doing in a month or two's time - leaving you with another visit rather sooner than you thought.
