I almost never post in the other forums, this is my family here. So although this is not really diesel related, here is my story. My car came with the summer run flats, boo. But it was graced with the 193 msport wheels, which I love. I live in the Mid-Atlantic area but have rocked the summer tires since getting the car. I cheat. I have a Jeep which I use most of the time in the winter. I just use the 3'er when the weather permits. But the past few winters, as many of you know, have been quite boring, so I am going another route. When I hit 19,000 miles on the clock (around the first of the year) the front tires started looking pretty well-worn - at least the outer edges ![]() In the end, I decided to use the 193 wheels for my winters, this way I can be "in love" with my car all year (rather than getting a cheap-temp setup). I'll need winter tires before next season, and look forward to your suggestions. I will be looking for something that is not designed for plowing snow, more for good handling, solid performance in the cold weather and winter rain, maybe a coating of snow -max! That brings me to the new setup for spring, summer, and early fall. I purchased CSL replicas that are rotary forged and quite lightweight. I have always loved this wheel design. I also got tires and they are quite sticky. I had them on my old Audi and LOVED them in all situations. They completely blew my mind in the wet, especially. Forget what the car looks like, I can't believe how much of a difference I can FEEL. Let me preface this by alerting you that I tested the scale in my company's warehouse. I just couldn't believe the results I was seeing. They are legit! I shed 6.6lbs at each rear corner and 8.16lbs for each of the front corners. I have been reading post after post after post from most of you, suggesting that getting rid of the run flats is the best mod you can do. And I always shrugged and said, ah, it can't be THAT much better. Well holy isht, the ride is so smooth, so quiet - I feel like I'm driving on heavenly, snow covered roads now. It really is worth of the expression "night and day". Obviously, getting lighter wheels is also making me realize a much improved "ride". It's not all b/c of the tires. I can seriously feel the weight reduction (wheels for the most part) and tire upgrade (less stiff). When? All the time. Sure I feel it when accelerating. But I feel it especially when I'm turning or braking, wow. Offset Info and Pic: This is before spacers: ![]() BMW 335D with OEM sport suspension, F: 235/40-18 18x8.5 et35 & R: 265/35-18 18x9.5 et45 edit to add Additional Offset Info & Spacers: 10mm hub centric spacers from VAC Motorsports, up front and in rear, same size. In my opinion, hub centric spacers is the only way to go. I'm serious that this is the max combination I would go with. If you're working on spacers/offset yourself, do the math: Front: 235/40/18 tire 18x8.5 et35 wheel 10mm spacer Rear: 265/35/18 tire 18x9.5 et45 wheel 10mm spacer LCI E90 on sport suspension PERFECT!!!! No rubbing thus far. Check it out, youtube provided. I feel that this is the max, without rolling. No rubbing after a serious romp today. The front is aggressive now: Front spacers on only, not rears: ![]() Front 235/40-18 18x8.5" et35 + 10mm VacMotorsports Spacer by Ryan Philly, on Flickr This shows front spacers on, rear spacers not on. Rears, desperately seeking spacers: ![]() Rear, before spacers by Ryan Philly, on Flickr ![]() Rear, before spacers by Ryan Philly, on Flickr ![]() Tomorrow, I will pick up the oem tires and wheels from the shop and will weigh them myself. Looking good, Rye! And congrats on the weight reduction. Taking that much unsprung rotational weight off the car is bound to reap results!

G11 is no slouch. Photography to me is three things. A good eye. Equipment/knowing how to use it. Post processing. Regarding your equipment and knowing how to use it...... if you're not interesting in learning the camera, put it in P mode, move the aperture around to see the different effect, and set the camera on something or a tripod, and set it up for a two second timer. Not a lot I can do with a car in a crappy parking lot, but a still camera will make a shot look better than avg. good luck.

![]() JK Wrangler Sahara Probably going to sell it soon. Resale value is insanity right now. No idea what to replace it with. Something that has a hatchback and awd, m4 R32? Or another SUV like a 4runner. The R would work BC my wife just got a SUV with trailer hitch pkg.

LOL nice. I've been reading about them. Mid or late '13 for the US?
Hey, do you think Mike has spacers in stock at vac? Edit, he does. Homegrown FTW! http://store.vacmotorsports.com/vac-...-of-2-p70.aspx Last edited by Ryebread; 03-27-2013 at 12:02 AM.. |

Rye, I want your car!!! Love the Le Mans Blue M sport with CSL wheels! That is the perfect D to me.
Will be listing my e46 M3 for sale next week then hope to find a well kept 335d for a fair price. Love the M sports, but the rarity makes it difficult. Believe a Sport Pack model will make me just as happy. We're almost neighbors...over here in the Lancaster area. |

![]() I hope we add you to the d club soon, Mark! GL with your search! Btw, Rye, Nice Jeep! +1 to dFan's diesel suggestion, but I do like those r32s. You could go big and do the bi turbo...then switch it over to a golf-looking exhaust and a standard front/rear fascia and you have one mean sleeper for 24-26k. |

My wheels are 195's with OEM RFT's and they weigh about the same was your 193's roughly 47lbs and 52lbs together.
My winters are 17" Rial Salerno's and Dunlop Wintersport 3D's 225/45r17 and they weigh about 45lbs a piece. The difference is AMAZING. I see improvements in gas mileage too! |

I don't have a lot of time to reply personally to everyone but thank you all.
It's nice to get a reply or two regarding photography. Adds to the desire to keep posting pics! I'm on my way to VAC to have the the pros "eye it / measure it" and I'll prolly go home with 5mm or 8mm spacers. Homegrown (cost effective), lightweight, quality spacers ftw. Stay tuned. p.s. I will reply to the other stuff later, and there's a price for everything ![]()

So many Ds in so little space. There seem to be an inordinate number of Eastern PA folks on the diesel board.
That's a gorgeous D made all the better with those wheels. Nice mod. My winter wheels fall into the "cheap temp" category. The Jersey Turnpike damaged one wheel pretty bad, and another has a small amount of damage but enough for me to look for new wheels for next season. Thanks for the OEM-looking tip. |
