This should end the Run-flat debate!
Thought you may find this interesting, It's a new "tire" being developed that will never go flat, because it has no AIR!!!

who cares about the weight. I can't even use all my 255 hp.
If they want to save weight, they should start developing good rubber or plastic materials for the car instead of metals now...hehe |

Those rubber bands should decrease cornering performance due to the lack of sidewall flex. One could imagine the ride on one of those tires. How do they attach the tire on the wheel since there is no bead to seat?

![]() That will be an awesome, eggbeater during a snow storm. That tire will never fly, not in your lifetime.

its sidewalls are cut off to see the technology but after reviewing the link im not positive. i think it would be asthetically pleasing to put some side walls on there!

If you follow it to the michelin site it has even more info. It sounds like with the "rubberbands" going across the tire they can design for the lateral loads and the vertical loads seperately and make the car incredibly stiff laterally yet soft vertically. Seems to me these wheels have tremendous potential. Getting people to accept them, much like RFT now, could be a challenge though. (looks around at all the RFT haters

there we go RFT fans, you want it ! you got it ! Lets see that in 18" or 19" staggered setup on you BBS or most admired wheels pls, cruising down Maint St. on a warm Summer Saturday night.
I wonder how the hot babes reacts to it, even with your Ferraris, Porsches, Aston Martins, Jags, Benz, Bmrs, Maybachs, they'll go "hmmm", huh?, ![]() ![]() |

I'd guess the technology works better on lower profile tires since the distance between the wheel and tire is smaller thereby offering less flex.

It was in Popular Mechanics recently...it's a one piece wheel, which is why there's no bead I guess.

They have been working on this for a while.
The idea is that they can vary the thickness of the "ribs" to control the stiffness of the ride. The down side to this is it lacks what current tires have in terms of sidewall flex.

they make inserts sort of like this for dirt bike tires many pro motocross racers use them. I think they are a few hundred each and no flats
