Car will not start, even after attempt to jump start

Hi everybody,
I have recently encountered a problem in which my car will not start. I got in this morning, put in the key, pressed the start, and all that happened was a brief sound of the engine sparking but nothing else. After this the keys were locked in and the car is dead. I tried jump starting the car with my roommates, but that was no good. If anybody has had this problem, or knows how to fix this please let me know. Much appreciated!

what year is it? there is a recall on certain years due to battery cable failing might be possible

If the battery shorts out, it will not pass current from a jump battery. You probably just need a new battery.

My car is a 2011 328i xdrive. I actually got it back last Thursday and it worked fine until last night.However, this time i wasn't fortunate enough to be home. This is pretty damn frustrating considering I've had the car for under two years.
