Remap Review
Guys,
It has been just over 1k since I had my 330d (245bhp) 2009 remapped by Jason at BW Chiptune, Hayes, Middlesex. Although mine has the encryption, he carried out the remap under 3 hours. My criteria was get as much torque and BHP as possible without compromising reliability and fuel economy. The great thing is Jason will tailor the map to your requirements and his knowledge is second to none.He took the time to speak to me over the phone and explain the process and options. The engine was always good but the car has been totally transformed. The torque curve has been smoothed out and the mid-range (2,200 to 3,500 revs) grunt in 3,4,5 and 6 gears is incredible! Seeing the faces of persons you overtake is epic but keep a close watch on your speed as it easy to get to three figures without too much effort (of course on the autobahns of Germany.) No reliability issues so far. The clutch is not slipping (early days I know) but I do drive sensibly. I'm told the car is pulling around 305bhp and just over 500lbs of torque. The price charged by Jason is very reasonable compared to many other tuners. Feel free to PM if you have any questions. |

Agree....Jason does look after his customers.
Went there for a dyno run and he was extremely helpful. |

BW Chiptune is right at the top of my list currently, for DPF removal and remap this summer. I've seen nothing but glowing reviews of him and his work.

Post your dyno graph if you can!

ALL remaps will invalidate your warranty if it can be shown that it's contributed to a problem. The only exception is the BMW Performance upgrade.

Sorry Mega, no DYNO but did save £50.
Dan - you could always go for less aggressive map which will give 280 bhp and 440lb torque. Still massive improvement on stock and better fuel economy.Less chance of issues on the clutch. He can do a switchable device on a LCI but has signed third party agreement with supplier not to do so until they bring out the device. I think the device is at least 4 months away. |

EvoTechnik are arranging a rolling road day at BW Chiptune soon, you should try and get down so we can see what the car is putting out now :-)
I'll post details when I have them ..

There isn't. But that's the only warranty-approved upgrade.

The mileage is getting towards new clutch territory regardless of remapping or not Dan. I'm tempted to say get it done and enjoy the car, but truth be told you MAY notice a bit of slip in 4th say with an aggressive map as that clutch will be a little on the worn side. Depends if you want to try and sell the car soon without ever getting the clutch/flywheel done (circa 1200 job from BMW) or whether you've accepted it's something that will happen at some point! It'd be a lie to say anything other than more torque equals more strain. No competetent remap operation would put more power through the gearbox than the car can take - but working components harder than stock will mean they last less time than stock it's that simple. As a point of reference I used to drive my 320d like a total clown and the clutch only managed 62k before going!!! Obviously the 330 clutch is rated higher though.

Then enjoy the POWERRRRR
Speak to Jason about your concerns and he can give you a circa 280bhp map with 40 or so ft lb less than he is capable. Or just throw caution to the wind and get the 305bhp map

An old clutch can slip at any power levels. 280bhp is no guarantee that you won't have problems...
Go for the 305bhp map and upgrade the clutch.
