Lock down kit + aftermarket exhaust = Problems

So today I had Quafie LSD installed as well as the Lock down kit. It was installed at VAC motor sports cool place very nice people. The whole install went smooth as butter until it was time to put the exhaust back on. We instantly noticed that the 4th link the one that links the diff to the sub frame actually makes the diff about 2-3inches wider. Making it impossible for my RPI catback to fit! Does anyone have an aftermarket exhaust on their car with the lock down kit? After trying to figure out what to do I then deiced I will figure it out once I got back home so I drove back from philly with one muffler and one straight pipe.

Besides all this drama the car feels amazinggg! The car feels planted and finally feels like a RWD sports car. I still haven't really gotten on her yet 1. because I want it to break in a tiny bit, and 2. because I only have 1 muffler on.

Now I'm caught in a weird situation do I take the exhaust off and sell it then buy one that will fit or try and have it fixed. I didn't take picture of it when the exhaust wasn't fitting. Which I should have now that I think about it!

In picture 4 see how the new plate that's attached to the diff makes the actual diff wider by a inch or two. My exhaust rubs clean against that to where I cant even align the exhaust properly. I will try again tomorrow.

Ill post some pics of the install. Tomorrow Ill try and get a shot of the exhaust not fitting, I may need to go a to an exhaust shop or possibly get a new exhaust I don't know if I want to hack this exhaust up.

The exhaust on JoeC's car was slightly too close to his diff lockdown kit, too. It only took a little readjusting to clear the exhaust pipe on his car. Every exhaust is going to fit different. I'd recommend taking it to an exhaust shop and have them cut and weld a small section to go around the diff. It should be quick and easy.

Took your advice just had it done at a local exhaust shop. I it went smooth and worked out fine for a reasonable price especially on a Sunday. Will post pictures later. Now I can enjoy my new lsd!!

Yup, on my car, the bolt just barely touched the Exhaust, Dave told me to drive around and if I didn't hear any rattling it was fine. Worst case I would have had to cut a few inches on the exhaust to re-route it a bit, I couldn't imagine costing more than $100.

It sounds like that was exactly what you did.

Break in the lockdown kit???

There is nothing to break-in. It's just metal bushings. I had to break in my Clutch, but the Lockdown kit does not need any break in, it should be ready to go.

I might drive a little easy for a couple miles just to make sure everything is installed tight and settled in, but it sounds like you already drove around a bit. I would smash on it! You will notice how much more solid the rear feels and how you can put so much more power down. The car will no longer shift to one side when you floor it. I will just squat and go straight.

Necessary mod for any modded 335i IMO.

OH, I see that you installed an LSD too. I didn't break in the LSD, I just went driving hard right away.

You defiantly will be able to. The only spot that changes is on the passenger side if you look at picture 4 where it adds 2-3 inches to the diff in width. The driver side stays completely the same and the HPF exhaust uses the path on the driver side. So Id say you're in the clear no problem.

Without this kit, a modded 335i feels like a 1wd car when you floor it!

ENJOY!

You need to use the long bolt included with the kit as the bushing to the left here is being held on by 1-2 threads.

you didn't get the long updated bolt? Mine goes in a lot more, Rick sent it linger bolts to those who needed it. You do for sure.

I didn't receive any bolts in the kit how many was I suppose to get.

Also just got on it for the first time and I'm in love with how the car feels!!!! It rockets forward and getting into second is a lot easier. Was worth every penny.

What bolts did you kit come with? every other bolt seemed to fit just fine. That one on the big bushing did seem suspect to me but the guys at VAC said I should be fine. I just emailed Defiv to see what they say, because I didnt receive any bolts at all in that kit.

depending on when you got your kit the bolt was updated since on some cars the longer bolt is needed add in your case...he mailed me a longer bolt. You need this man, that is a bit sketchy as in safety wise in my opinion.
