Boost question
Just did a little spring maintenance (cleaned the air intakes, emptied my occ, installed my dp fix) and decided to grab a quick log.
I noticed my boost level seems lower across the board than last summer. Am I making more power with 40 degree air so the turbos work less? Or is there a reason I'm a few psi lower than I used to be. Car feels good... Just wondering what you guys thought |

boost oscillation/undertarget, higher than normal wastegate duty cycle. you would probably get a code if it was bad enough.

From what I know, Cobb targets load, not boost pressure. If it only takes x PSI to get to that specific load, the Cobb doesn't target higher than that. It's similar control logic to what most OEM systems use, it keeps the power consistent over fluctuations of external conditions. At lower temperatures it takes less pressure to achieve the same power (assuming constant atmospheric pressure/humidity/etc).

Exactly that, Cobb does target load. I am running JB4 G5 ISO right now but think i want to come back to Cobb like i ran in my Subarus
's. I loved ATR and look forward to learning ATR in relation to BMW as boost control is much different as stated. The adjustablity of Cobbs ATR is very addictive. |

As everyone else said, Cobb doesn't target boost. It targets a load. The Cobb will use less boost if it meets the target load. It's a bit backwards in the "tuning" world but it works.
Ideally you would want a tune that gives you more boost in the cold months and less in the hotter months. There are pros and cons to each method but the purpose of the load targeting is to maintain similar power all year round, while tuning for cold months and tuning for hot months gives you the best power in those conditions. |
