PROcede questions for Track Day

Hi guys,

I have my 2nd ever track day coming up this Friday 14th September and was wondering about two things:
  1. I want to give myself every chance against the Porsches and Ferrari’s, etc that will be there, so I am going to fill the car with our highest octane fuel 94.5 AKI (98 RON) rather than the 91.5 AKI (98 RON) I normally use. I was wondering how quickly my PROcede V1.45 will take advantage of this higher octane level to produce more power. Hours or days?

  2. Will the higher octane help reduce the chance of an engine code (i.e. symbol) popping up like last time?
Once again, I will post a full review including photos and video after Friday's meet.

Cheers.

higher octane = colder engine temp = less knock = less chance engine code

Captn,

You need to upload V1.47 to your unit or the LBT if you are getting codes.

If you like I have a laptop & the tools needed to do it, shoot me an email and we can perhaps swap map loading for a car wash

Honestly removing the covers only takes a few mins with some practice.

On a side note I sponsor a race car; can give you the details where you can get some race gas if you really want to kive it some kick in the arse power.

Regards,

S

Bring the LBT ready to load. I ran 91, 94mix and 100 octane. In sustained track use, they all gave me the code. LBT fixed it.

That might be the solution Wopalx. I don't want the Porsche guys know that I have modded my car.

Is there a maximum octane the PROcede can take advantage of? Race fuel sounds good though. What octane is it?

Did you notice a performance difference between the octane levels?

Cheers.

Installation tools I normally carry in the boot. Saves any agro if I should need to be towed to a $tealership as I can remove the unit if needed. Only tool I don't leave in the boot is the bottle of installation red wine As for swapping the map I have a USB to serial connector that works with my wifes laptop. I have not tried loading maps before but it cannot be too hard.

The race fuel can be purchased from a place called Hi Octane, they are out west somewhere. Not sure what octane it is but the car I sponsor uses it in 44 gallon drums @ about $865 per drum.

Shiv should be able to tell you what octane the PROced can handle, I'd expect it will be fine with race gas.

The PROcede will begin to adapt to the higher octane pretty quickly (within a mile of driving), but won't fully adapt for for a few dozen miles of driving. It will adapt faster the harder you drive it in those first few miles.

And I agree, you should upload v1.47 before you go.

My last track day I kept getting Engine malfunction, and there were knock faults and boost pressure faults. I have programmed with 1.47LBT, you think im safe to hit the track again? I loved keeping up with the GT3, but hated leaving early after I couldnt get the faults to stay away.

For me, the difference was night and day. I couldn't get 1/2 way around the track with regular 1.47 and I was doing completely fine with LBT 1.47 even in the 100+ degree heat.

Higher octane makes no difference in limp mode prone-ness. Keep in mind that I rarely if ever got limp mode on the street or even during my short forays to the drag strip. The road course changed all that.

I was getting limp mode on the streets during casual driving with the older version, but crossing my fingers so far nothing since the upload.

But won't LBT reduce performance around the track??

Cheers.

Captn',

LBT from how I understand it will lower the boost larget a fraction, I don't think you will see much performance reduction if any. It's there for the cars that for some reason cannot get the target the proceed calls for and therefore puts the car into limp mode.

Keep in mind you are (or were the last time we spoke) running 1.45 so you could even try 1.47. If you decided to do this then you could leave the serial connector hanging out of the ECU box or run a serial cable out of the box into the glovebox so you could if needed load the LBT map while at the track.

1.45 had some issues (resolved with 1.47) which could also be the reason for the codes you had last time.

I think loading V1.47 and having the LBT version ready to go would be the best option for you.

Regards,

S

I believe it reduces top end by 8-10hp (roughly 1psi, by my measurements). Honestly, at this power level, your ability to carry speed through the corners will have a much greater effect on if you're faster than someone else.

I will definitely use the LBT maps. I was at the track two weeks ago and it went into limp mode for half the track which I slow down, came into pit, went away, came back on the track but go to full throttle gradually and not stomp on it will be ok. As far as increasing the octane, you will get at most 5extra ponies but it will keep you at peace of mind from knocking and other bad things. Otherwise, your car will do fine on the straight with those car, twisty will be a different story unless you running aftermarket suspension and tires.

My numbers are based on tracking boost using the two maps - tested within 10 minutes of each other. ymmv.
