How much do you pay for your auto insurance (Los Angeles)
Hi,
I just found out how much my co-worker pays for his M3 and shocked. He's paying much lower than my 2007 328i. I have the following options Bodily Injury 25,000/50,000 $0.00 $202.00 Property Damage 25,000 $0.00 $209.00 Collision Deductible Waiver 750 $750.00 $10.00 CA FRAUD FEE $0.00 $0.90 Medical Payments 01 $0.00 $43.00 UMBI 015/030 $0.00 $84.00 Other Than Collision $750.00 $162.00 Collision $750.00 $668.00 Extended Transportation Cov 30/30 $0.00 $34.00 Towing and Labor 50/150 $0.00 $2.00 Basically, I pay 1414/6 months. I know that you need to pay more in Los Angeles, but isn't this too high??? |

I guess it depends on how old you are and how long you've had your license too. I also have a 328i and I'm paying more than you actually lol. But I'm also young and I've only had my full license for a little over a year. I'm also in Canada... don't know if that makes a difference.

With the lowest Third party and Liability set to 500,000 each and the highest deductible which is $1000 + 5% discount it comes up to = $880 including taxes for 3 months! This is for a 2008 335i
Last 6 months, I paid $2200 something with a 1,000,000 liability + 1,000,000 Third party and 200 or 300 deductible with no discount... Both are way higher than yours unfortunately! |

You have to shop around like a mofo for insurance. Every company has a totally different assessment of risk and what factors contribute.
Injury: 100k/300k Damage: 100k uninsured/underinsured: 100k/300k comprehensive: $250 ded. collision: $500 ded. roadside service rental reimbursement: $30/day $900 max $735/6mo. I don't know how it comes out that way either. I've talked to a couple agents for quotes at other companies that just sort of laughed and hung up when they found out what I was currently paying. your coverages are *scary* low, by the way. I didn't even know you could legally meet coverage requirements with <75k per-incident injury coverage. edit: Ahh, I guess the minimum injury coverage is 15/30. Also, additional info: I'm about as insurable as it gets besides my age, but even my friend is in a pretty similar situation, yet has had multiple accidents. I guess they were >5 years ago, though.

Wow insurance in the states is so different to the uk. Didn't really think about how
You had to pay for different levels. In the uk it's all included in comprehensive, my renewal doesn't seem so bad know. (I know this post bares no info for the op) |

Age and driving record are huge factors determining your rates. Your coverage levels and type/age of car, and where you live are big too.
I've found that as I've gotten older my attitude towards insurance has changed drastically! When I was in my 20's I was all about keeping it cheap. Now more insurance is better! |

Littlehuman,
Love the name, btw. With liability coverage so low, you are in serious danger of really screwing up your life. Slip in the rain once, hit some stuff and you will end up owing HUGE amounts of money that your policy won't cover. Cause an accident where someone needs to go to the hospital, and that tiny Personal Injury coverage will get eaten up very, very quickly. Search around, find someone who will give you better coverage. Your Liability coverage isn't what's costing you so much, so raising it shouldn't make your rates too much worse (your Collision is, by itself, more than I pay for 6 months in total...but I'm old). Good luck :-) |

Shop it around. I switched a few years back and managed to cut my rate in half while doubling all of my coverage limits and getting a better carrier (Ameriprise to State Farm). Every company has a different method for setting rates depending on a lot of things. Some companies don't want certain types of business, so they'll price out of it. FWIW, I pay less than you for 2 cars ('07 335, '07 Infiniti), homeowners, and a life insurance policy. And I'm in GA which apparently is one of the highest for insurance rates (lots of uninsured motorists here). And my rate includes an adjustment for an at fault accident my wife got into a few years back where 2 cars got totalled.

Your credit score also plays a BIG factor. High credit scores often mean lower auto insurance rates.
Before you complain, remember that it's all actuarial science. |

and even the same city doesnt mean same rates. everything could be identical in terms of coverage and driving record, but a different zipcode within the same city could change the rate. i pay $100/month for: Progressive Insurance 2008 328i e92 - single car 50k/100k - BI 50k - PD $1000 deductible for collision and comprehensive UM/UIM with deductible waiver no rental/roadside assistance 17yrs driving experience 0 points, 0 accidents last year before i moved 6 months ago, i was paying $128/month for the exact same stats. change even just ONE thing and the comparison to another person becomes useless.

I pay 95 a month on my 07 328i. i receive a student discount, loyalty discount, on time payment discount, as well as a low milage discount.
1000 dollar deductible.. which is pretty large, so monthly would be considerably lower. Full coverage/uninsured motorist/medical/ect.. I shoot myself in the foot, but that is with a DUI as well as an at fault minor accident (under 1000 in damage). |
