I've got metal pressed plates from Elite Car Care but have used Demon Plates and Fancy Plates in the past.

Off topic but:
My brother came over today - his first ride out this year on his Kawasaki Z1000. He needed his insurance renewing, and as the Internet is not something he does, I get the job. When he arrives, I say that his reg number was not the one he gave me - I thought I had misheard on the phone FJ12xxx, rather than FG12xxx A quick check of the V5, and sure enough, the supplying dealer had put the wrong number on his plate, so he has been racing, sorry, riding about all last summer with the wrong reg number! The one on his bike has not been issued. He's taken a trip past the dealer on his way home - a 60 mile ride. Good job it's nice and sunny! The insurance: renewal £198 with MotorCycle direct. Bought Bennets at £117 for better cover. Worth the petrol money for him to come over. |

My car had original dealer plates on, so when I bought a private jobbies i wanted to keep the originality of the car so went to the main dealer and had them made up.

Over here the state issues them. I was stopped in Virginia (USA) with my UK plates because the cop couldn't get a read on my registration; duh. He said that folks like the European plates and get their state issued alphanumeric string on the Europlate. The catch is, it's illegal and a $141 fine per plate (two required in Virginia).

I had mine done by an Ebay shop. Clearly stated in the advert for show use only, but they've got the BSAU number and supplier's name so they actually meet all the criteria. No ID needed because they're show plates.

I agree with you and do the same - I just bought mine from No1showplates when the original ones started delaminating. They are cheap, good quality, legal font layout, BSAU stamped, but don't have a makers postcode, and are ID free 'show plates' so 'technically' they illegal. But who cares?? they're cheap and no messing around with ID and all that crap. It's passed two MOT's wth them on, and no way any copper would spot it from a car as the layout is legal. At worst I'd get a VDR to fix it in 14days, and I'd just put the old ones back on Last edited by doughboy; 04-16-2013 at 03:27 AM.. |
