Little red button
My 4yr/50,000mi BMW Assist will expire at the end of this year. BMW quoted me that to continue this service--of which the only useful features are the SOS button for roadside assistance and Google push-to-nav--will cost $200 per year. They were also kind enough to offer that I pay a non-prorated $800 up front for 4 additional years.
So my question is: has anybody re-wired the SOS button to do something useful, like engage meth? Can it be interfaced with the Procede to change maps? Can I replace the cool-looking safety cover over the button with a cover that has a picture of a skull and crossbones and make this button work for me? |

I've never had BMW assist since I bought the car used... but I've always wanted to push that button. Definitely has a fighter jet feel.

Worked on my ride when I had a message stating the SOS was no good. Had the evaporator for AC replaced after failing and the tech didn't Connect the cable back (also radio did not work, but was fixed by plugging a cable back in).
Lady was very nice and told me my location. I'm sure it works so unless you want to get shaken down for a renewed service plan don't push it ![]()

Get electric cutouts for exhaust and wire switch into this button? Super stealth!

I used BMW Assist when my water pump went out. I was past the 4/50 but said why not?
![]() Surprisingly enough, they took my VIN and got me a tow truck. I'm under CPO but I thought that was interesting. |

On my E34 which was prewired for phone (but had none) but had no garage door opener, i wired the phone button (press in on windshield wiper stalk) to a homelink garage door opener i hid in the sunroof control panel, something like that could be done so you can change maps on JB4 by pressing the SOS button instead of throttle, or my personal fav idea, manual actuation of the seat belt assist instead of automatic
