Interior Water Damage

Hey,
So ya know that great feature where the windows roll down after holding the unlock button for a bit? Well I guess I was too close to my car with my keys in my pocket last night and my windows rolled down.....

This morning I walked outside to see it raining, well great my windows are closed right? SH*T!!!! My windows weren't closed! NOOOOO

Quickly grab shopvac....suck out all remaining water, towel down all leather....uh....uh.....SOS?....no.....Delta Sonic?....damn

So now I have nice bubbly leather and I don't know what to do....

Delta sonic told me to run my car with the heat on for a while, so it's been running for a while and the leather is dry....but still bubbly. Is there any way that I can get my leather nice and tight again?

Thanks,
Dave

My experience?

If leather gets wet, and then dries without any movement, the leather is first very soft (wet), and as it dries, it hardens. The first time you use it when dry, you will notice it is hard and as time goes by it softens. However, if there is significant movement during drying, the leather will stretch with little effort, and when it dries it will be much more loose then when you first got it, and it will always be soft.

Other situations that proves this is what happens to leather:
Leather boots. The best way to break them in so they fit your feet really well is to get them nice and wet and keep wearing them until they dry. The leather will shape around the foot, and then they feel like a custom made boot. In fact, this is why old time skiers like the old leather boots - because as they got wet/dried, they formed around the owners foot over time.

Another example: Leather work gloves.... Put them on new, and the leather is soft. After they get wet, the leather hardens, but then after using them for a little, they losen up, and they become comfortable.

Will this happen to your seats?? I do not know. But I thought I would share what happens to non-BMW leather when wet. (I would think BMW leather is treated in some way!!!) Who knows - after the leather dries, and you use it a little, the stitching may not be as tight but the seat will fit your ass perfect!!!!

Good luck!!!

Just let it dry naturally without stretching it, then use leather conditioner to soften it.

Hey guys, thanks for the replies

I let it dry and conditioned it almost immediately and I will definitely be conditioning the hell out of it in the near future.

Thanks again

After two days it's looking a bit better... I just ordered the Zaino Ultimate Care thingy so, I'll be continuing my Maguiare's....or however you spell that...conditioning and cleaning solution on my leather until I get the new Zaino stuff. Im not overdoing it, but I conditioned on sunday, and my leather felt all pretty and got a bit less bubbly but now it's starting to feel and look a bit dry again (after two days of fogging up my mirrors :-P) so I'll probably condition again tonight. I'm surprised that is has tightened back up a bit, so I'm not so worried anymore, I'll just be really obsessive
