Exhaust note questions/ideas yet again!
Ok,2013 e92 n55 with the golf tee already done here. Car is leased but may be purchased later on..anyhow I've been playing around with down pipe only options(warranty) or changing mufflers(had is mufflers in hand but decided against) or even replacing secondary cats since I have an x-drive.
I've read replacing them would cause some white smoke/smell but non x-drives don't have that cat but haven't heard of anything from them. I'm thinking of opening up the stock mufflers possibly but with possibly replacing just the secondaries. Aftermarket catbacks are iffy unless they are AA,AE,hpf systems to me. Besides going that route, is there anything I'm missing going for the deep snarl/crackle pops of the systems? I guess with the secondary delete and the right muffler choice we can get similar sound characteristics custom vs a brand new system. Also will not going completely catless or mufflerless because of the drone. Who's looking for the same? |

My DINAN Black Diamond free flow exhaust is sick sounding. It's pricey though, as most DINAN stuff is, but well worth it for me. Much better than the BMW PE.

First thing is delete secondaries, if you want more sound then get new mufflers, but stay away from cheap magnaflows, get remus universal mufflers or even bmw performance exhaust..

Ok so I will delete the secondaries to start and see if there are other options for mufflers as far as playing with the packing or putting resonators in there place. I know a lot has to do with the mufflers.
If there's anything else please add! |

I think the N55 people will agree ( if you can ) go with the BMW performance exhaust + catless dp.

N55 with a catless down pipe and BMW performance exhaust sounds amazing.
I know people with that set up and it is very nice. I just ordered Remus Race with my BMS catless down pipe just to be different. Hopefully it will sound real nice. |

I guess I could go that route with the bmw performance mufflers. I'm going to delete the secondaries first, then play around with the packing and holes in the oem muffler. If the sound isn't much improved, it will be different mufflers possibly oem.

AA exhaust here, it's awesome. No drone and sounds very deep, it's a bit on the quieter side but sounds more refined when compared to AE etc. Similar to the PE but it's a full DP-back exhaust with an x-pipe which deletes the resonators, so it probably makes a bit more power than just swapping out the mufflers. It's a very high quality piece, couldn't be happier

I was going to simply delete the secondary cats since I have an xdrive, but n55 midpipes should fit without cutting the stock exhaust. Any idea where I can find them at a good rate, new or used? I was also going to replace the exhaust tips to a thinner wall but was told by a vendor that it would make zero difference after reading hours worth that it can make a nice yet subtle change! Any input or help appreciated!

Vanguard sounds better than PE, IMO. The main difference being that the PE has a more raw, raspy, higher pitched growl and the Vanguard is a deeper more exotic sounding rawness. My catless dp/vanguard setup sounds like Ferrari 355 to me (not identical, but that kind of sound). I work for a BMW dealership and get to hear the PE all day and it just sounds tinny to me. |

I love my BMW Performance Exhaust. Not too noisey at all in the cabin but sounds amazing under power. Also with the PPK tune the burble is fantastic. Im not catless though.
