TPMS Acting strange

Yesterday I turned my car on and the TPMS indicating I have low pressure in my tire(s). So I check it out. I have the stock runflats on my 335 by the way. First I check the drivers door to see what the recomendation is, 32 in the front and 35 in the back. So I check the pressure and the front tires are 27 and 28 and the rears are 32 and 33. That was a bit low so I put air in. I got all my tires to the correct pressure. But still my TPMS is complaining. I went to reset it and it wont turn off it still says TIRE LOW!!! Has anyone ran into this, any suggestions?? Its so annoying.

Did you drive around after you reset the tire pressure?

i got confused when i was trying to reset mine too. When you use the stalk and you get to the menu to reset tire pressure. You have to hold down the BC Button until you see a check mark appear. then it should disappear.

Odd, I do not get a warning for low pressure and I had roughly the same before I added. What is the threshold for the sensor before it signals a warning?

Same thing happened to me last night.

TPM came on and off I went to check the tire pressure, which sure enough was low, but not too bad. About 27lbs on the fronts, and about 32lbs on the rears vs. 32 & 38 lbs recommended respectively.

After getting all the tires to the recommended pressure I just could not get the TMP to reset itself. It kept telling me that the Tires were low.

Eventually I added about 4 lbs or so over the recommended for each tire and only then did it stop giving me the "Low Tire" message. Then after doing this and driving a bit it finally reset.

Weird....

Same thing happened to me. The Low Tire Alarm came on. When I checked the tire pressures they were all fine.

Called my SA and he said to reset and drive around for about a mile. I did so but the alert never went away. It always came up with the TIRE LOW warning when I tried to reset it and would never go away no matter how long i held the BC button.

Finally I had to take it to the dealer where they had to reset the computer. They had no idea why it happened.

Gialeo's story is identical to mine. I could never reset the TIRE LOW warning and it would never enter the reset sequence. The dealer had to connect the computer to my car to reset it. The wheel and tire service advisor at the dealer also said the front tires should also be set to 38 psi becuase the wear would be very high if they were left at 32 psi. I even used the BMW assist to contact customer service and she verified I was doing the reset proceedure correctly. The whole thing did not leave with a feeling of confidence in the TPMS since they never "fixed" anything and it could happen again.

My guess is the colder weather is dropping the pressure ever so slightly in the tires. Mine did the same thing on our first really cool night here in western MI, and the computer said all 4 tires were low. Suprised me at first, but I checked all the pressure and it was pretty good. A reset of the TPM and a short drive... no problem now.

mine just did it this morning on my way to school tried to press reset and it just kept saying TIRE LOW!

i'm not sure what pressures i should be running on my 19s, so its hard to determine if any of them are actually low or not. I've only had these tires on for a week, hopefully its not a recurring incidence.

anyone know the recommended pressures for 235/35/19 front 265/30/19 rear?

Strange...same thing happened to me today as well. Never happened before.

The service guy I talked to at the dealership said the TPMS is pretty sensitive - a decline in tire pressure of about 10%-15% will set off the warning.

Hey is TPMS part of the rims/wheels or what? I'm just wondering cause I'm looking to sell my rims and the guy wants to know. BTW, for my car it was recommended to be 32 front 39 back. When I checked, the pressure for both was really low at 30. No chime or anything or warning.

Same thing happened to me today... I checked the pressure on the door and it says 36 in front and back (335xi with 18" sport)... I checked the pressure and it was only off by 1 maybe 2 pounds per tire. I have reset the computer and will drive it to see if the upper indicator goes away.

Luckily I'm going in on Monday for my first oil change (1,800 miles) and to have them pull codes to see if my fuel pump is going bad.

I have only had 2 or 3 long cranks and changed over to Shell 93 octane and it seems to be fine.. but I would rather be safe than sorry.

Just for you guys info. I brought my car into a dealership today for a check up on my right side front underlining. For some reason, the oil cooler plastic cover got displaced and I wanted the dealer to "snap" it back in place. And as soon as the SA got my fob and inserted in the computer, he immediately told me that there is currently a recall on TPMS software. So now my car will be sitting at the dealership over this weekend for some TPMS software upgrade (complete upgrade).

So you might need to ask your SA about this TPMS software upgrade/recall to see if that might be what you need. I had a TPMS error code about a month ago. My car wouldn't let me reset and it kept telling me "Tire Low" in the OBC.

Good luck.

ditto

The same thing happened to me this morninig when i got into my car, low tire pressure warning was activated for the first time after having owned the car for 4 months. The nights in Ct. have just gotten a little bit cooler around here which has to be the reason for the warning. Tire pressure checked out fine on all four tires, after reading an earlier post - i simply held the reset button (on the end of the stalk) down for about 7 seconds/drove around and the warning light went out! Thank gosh!!

low pressure warning came on for the first time today. It was cold, but the pressure was not more than 3psi down from the last time I set it (and each one was uniformly down). I wasn't able to reset to the present pressure, so I finally filled it up the tires, and was able to use Idrive controller to reset tires.

I decided to check sensitivity. I was at rest and drained one tire until the sensor came on. I reset at 36 psi, and it didn't come on until

(accidentally hit return). Anyway....

didn't come on until about 25 psi. Here is what I don't get. How come it got activated for all tires with drop of only 3 psi, but on a single tire it took 11 psi to trigger? Strange. When I began filling up the tire again and got close to initial value, then the sensor went off.

BTW, why are you all using the stalk to reset the tire pressure? Is that because you don't have Idrive? Or is that another way to reinitialize. I'm asking because the Idrive was a PITA to reset.

It's the cold weather, mine went off today once I let it sit outside for a few hours. I just hit reset and moved on with life. Probably will go get a little bit of air tomorrow though.
