Simply, to stop certain other individuals causing problems.
I could go into a whole lot more detail, but I choose not to, ok! ![]() Viv |

![]() So, you're saying there may be one individual who may cause problems, are you? ![]() badwolf340, if I were you, I'd speak to the dealer about it & pretty much ignore anything you see being posted on this thread, as I foresee it ending in tears, again! ![]() Viv |

In reply to the OP (badwolf340), I think BMW 6 cylinder engines generally are quite thirsty with oil during the initial break-in period. I think this might be particularly true of diesels. My Z4 went through oil quite quickly during the first few thousand miles. Best thing as Viv said is to check with your dealer.

No oil yet
I had my 325DSE at the end of April.
It's now done 12000 miles and no oil has been added. The service interval indication started out at 18000 miles and has now dropped to 13000 . I'm not likely to put any oil in before next service. |

1.5 Litres ?
I had my 325DSE at the end of April. It now has 12000 miles on it.
I haven't put ANY oil in it. The service interval indication started at 18000miles and now shows 13000. i won't be putting any oil in it before it's next service. I bet if I red line it again, the interval will drop to 12000. That ain't very good for a modern diesel. The E46 managed 15000miles... |

Our 335d used a litre in the first 1750 miles and another 500mls in the next 5000. We were forewarned of this by the dealer when we picked it up. It seems to have settled down now has not used any more since.
I think a lot of this initial oil consumption is down to the fact the the engine is run on fully synthetic oil from the start. This was always considered a no no in the past as it did not allow rings to bed in quickly so maybe the oil technology has improved. Regards Chris

Mine used 1 ltr in the first 1.5K miles, then nothing but it was absolutely hammered from day 1, remapped after a week and I changed the oil every 5K miles.

If the E92 behaves the same as my old Z4, then it will first give a beep (chime) when you turn off the engine/ignition after a journey and the oil warning symbol will light yellow. This just means it is close to the minimum and you should put some more oil in soon!! It might give the warning on one particular occasion and then seem ok for a while, but then remind you again in say 2 weeks time.
I'm surprised the Carlos-mobile really managed to last 20,000 miles without needing more oil ![]()
