how much power can the AT hold?
Hi Guys,
I have all bolt ons except intercooler which ill put soon. Is it true that only this is already too much for the AT? No way I should add meth, or RB's right? Thanks Dan |

this trans. amazes me. i had to modify my vet trans to hold slightly over 400hp...that be said i would still do the alpine b5(i think) main for the quicker shift instead of clutches and bands slowly(sliding) in to gear changes...less heat build up which we all know is detrimental to autos.

One thing that people miss here is there are very few cars with high TQ (maybe none) that have run the Alpina flash from BEFORE they had all that TQ. So we really have zero data on what it will hold up to with a proper flash for mods, done prior to cranking all that high TQ through it.

Let's see someone take a fresh (stock) tranny in good condition with nothing but the flash and run it 500+ TQ see what happens. |

Well, I'm not sure what point you're trying to make. We know that it makes the trans hold more power with less slip, so why would it be any different for a new trans? If anything it would make it last longer.

Find a cheap transmission local on car-part.com. Drop the pan, disconnect the MCM and drop the valve body. Replace with post 03/07. Recommend installing ZIPKIT prior to installation. Once installed, flash with Alpina B3 transmission flash. Rob, this is what the doctor ordered brother. You should DIY this when you do the swap. |

Unflashed stock trans + high TQ = bad, lots of wear/damage on internal components leading to possible eventual failure, many cases of this Flashing this type of abused trans AFTER lots of TQ put through it, no conclusions can be drawn as to flash mitigating failures. Because the trans has been subjected to prolonged high TQ levels and may be damaged already. However, flashing VIRGIN trans and THEN running high TQ through it, we have ZERO data on. It MAY mitigate failures. Flash has only been available couple of months tops whereas most high TQ AT cars have been high TQ for longer time than that (like Terry's). Jeez. All I am saying is we do not know anything yet about how the Alpina flash does on a VIRGIN trans running high TQ. All other trans have been thrashed W/O flash, then flashed. edit: Also as far as I know Alpina did not see the need to beef up 6HP21 internals on the B3, they are usually pretty crazy about hardware. Can you elaborate? How much wtq are you putting down? I would love to upgrade to a set of RBs but refuse to until there is a viable solution for the AT.
