Too much boom - keeps breaking gas tank latch..

Ok so don't know where to post this or if there is even a solution but here goes..

I have 2 12 inch subs in my trunk. Every time I turn up the stereo and start bumping the stupid gas tank latch breaks. It just broke for the third time this weekend. I don't even have 3k miles on the car yet and this will be my third trip to the dealer for the same stupid latch.. Yes I am sure it is broken and it has nothing to do with the locking mechanism..

The only solution I can think of is to get a new latch.. promptly remove it.. and just let the door sit there, probably with something between the door and the car body so it doesn't rattle.

Anyone else with lots of bass experiencing this problem?

I have the same problem, i went to like ten of those latch already. Im planning to dynamat my whole trunk to see if it help. Is your sub ported? if it ported is it facing the fuel tank door side. Mine on that side and i think it the cause of the latch to break..

I have a sealed box.. guess I need to get some dynamat. I think I am just going to keep the latch removed and put something there so it doesn't rattle.

I don't have any problems with mine, 2 JL 10w6, and i get very little rattling and haven't needed any dynamat other than the rear deck, other than that the only rattling i get is from the air ducks on the side of the car, but you can't here that inside.

If your subs are in a standard box in your sealed box this problem always will happen. the box needs to be force loaded or band passed through the ski hole and sealed into the car not into the trunk. no matter how much dynamat you put in the trunk it will still happen. when the box is sealed into the car correctly no rattle happens from the trunk because all of the bass pressure is loaded to where it should be.

If I don't have a ski boot can that piece pop out? Basically is is pre-cut just not removed? That's how my old 330 was.. I just popped out the sheet metal... Can I assume I can do the same thing? It's a lease so I would rather not do any noticeable damage.

if you dont have the ski boot option it must be cut. i have run into the same problem in my car but we are just removing what we can and then cutting it. when the car goes back in i will just put everything back to cover the hole. i just started on my system i will post pics as soon as i start installing the box and amp rack. i am doing 2 hertz mille 12's band passed.

Cool! I'll keep my eyes out for your pics..

I don't hear any rattles inside the car at all, but know my license plate, etc rattle outside the car..

Has happened to mine 4 times. The dealer covered it no worry. I have two 10's pumping about 1200 watts. I believe dynomat is going to be the answer.
