The low speed squeak...
Setup: The entire suspension system is stock. (40k miles) 2008 335i Sport Sedan /w JB4
I have 4 evil speed bumps going into my neighborhood. Starting out in the morning, I go over them just fine at 10-15 mph and no abnormal noises. After driving the 30 miles home and going back over the speed bumps, the car has a loud squeak pretty much in time with wheel rotation until I hit 20 mph and then it disappears. The car makes no noise while actually going over the bumps, only after when I start accelerating. Then I make a right turn into development and hear the squeak again while accelerating. I have not heard the noise while coasting 5-20 mph, just when foot is lightly on the gas pedal. I took it to BMW (it is a CPO) and they tried getting me to replace front struts for $1500, and 3 bent rims they wanted to straighten for $300. Car has a slight shimmy at 55-60 mph but barely noticeable. Any help would be greatly appreciated! |

Are you talking about the brake squeal? Could be the sensor is touching the disc. People say that because the car has hill assist, it keeps the brake pads closer to the disc in order for them to apply faster, but it causes a squeal at low speeds and goes away when they move further away from the disc at a certain speed.
Sometimes the bushing up from squeak over bumps when its wet out, sometimes its the suspension that does it.

I have never heard my brakes squeal at any speed. I had tried coasting up to the bump, not applying brakes at all and then the slight acceleration and still hear the squeak. It is just as loud when I'm making the right turn after the bumps at about 15 mph. Strangest thing I've ever had with a car...

Sounds like it could be the infamous brake squeal.
Thread here on people trying to solve it. My fix is on page 5, 106th post if you're interested. Sounds like the pads rubbing against the rotors possibly. I have downshifted (applying no brakes) to a stop in my car and had squeals. My problem was still considered the infamous brake squeal. Also, my brakes had to be warmed up prior to it starting to squeal which would explain why it squeals when you are near home and not when heading out. Took me about 35-45 mins depending on how hard I was driving.

Yea I've given up on mine. Mine's audible at low speed, like in a parking lot, when accelerating or turning, with no brakes applied. Sucks because it's so loud and makes your car sound like a piece of crap and not a BMW. Been told it's because of the brake sensors by the dealer and the only option they could give was to replace the brakes out of my own pocket. Ummmm...no thanks.
