JB4 1st impresssions with E85
After waiting the last month for some exhaust parts to come I could not stand the wait any longer and decided to install the JB4. With some frustration after having issues I emailed Terry thinking there would be no way he would respond on a Sunday. Not only did he respond but he walked this newb thru the install till complete on a Sunday! Now that's Customer Service...the dude rocks! Loaded up Map 5 and went for a drive and did a few pulls..could tell a difference but was not overly impressed at first coming from a SC LS2 Vette with Meth. I have read where it takes a little bit for it to learn so I kept driving and did see an increase. Definitely a worth while mod. But I thought why not add a 1/4 tank of E85 and try that. So off to the gas station I went to fill er up and take her for a spin...ok.... the difference was sick! If you don't already have the JB4 I highly recommend it, further, get your self to the nearest pump and add E85! Next up, VRSF DP's after the get ceramic coated this week locally. And the AE Sport Exhaust Last edited by DELTA33; 10-07-2013 at 11:01 PM.. |

Kids these days... Its like buying video game and plugging in the cheats ASAP before having time to learn all aspects of the game. E85 should wait until the car has 100 miles with jb in order to learn as well as your downpipes. Plus you have forever corrupted your personal butt dyno.
Further more, 50% mix right off the bat?!? Are u mad?!? Did you even factor in 93 has E10%? so a half and half mix is more like e55-e60. Go read the sticky on tuning your N54, and save the members of e90 from your future threads like, "why is my car miss firing?" Or something more serious. Look I don't blame you, the mod bug bit and now its like telling a heroine addict to slow down. But do yourself and car a favor and research these things and learn from exp members.

Long term adaption to the DME is a couple drive cycles max, fewer depending on how you drive. About 30 seconds time (or less) at various running conditions and you have yourself a fully adapted DME for any combination of mods, FBO all at once or DCI only, adaptation time is similar.
For the E85 it's a matter of a few WOT pulls for the JB4 to get the bias right and you're g2g assuming there's nothing mechanically wrong with the car. Dallas in summer is humid and hot and not too hard to fuel vs cold and dry. And 50/50 E85/93 (with e10) is E47.5, assuming it's even E85 to begin with. I think it's closer to E82 here in Texas, so that would make a 50/50 blend E46. Just sayin. |

e50 or e47.5 is a little much without meth or a BMS flash (trust me I have tried it while logging)... I bet you are maxing fuel trims, and your AFR ratio is going to show lean. I run about e60-70 with 49% meth with a target of 17.5 and this is about it before I dont feel comfortable with my trims/afr/timing... Be careful, the JB4 will "autotune" and you generally will not feel it when you trims top out or a lean condition (unless you trigger a failsafe). I didnt trigger one when my trims were topping out when first using e85 because they didnt top out for long enough. That doesnt mean its ok for the car though.... Shut off auto code delete and log for your cars safety..

But straight to 50/50 isn't necessarily bad, some cars do alright with it. It's ok for trims to top out briefly as long as afr is good, but 50/50 is far from e60. |

Ok, so i'm getting from this dialogue that I may have jumped the gun abit. So to get more specific I added 5 gallons into a 15.9 tank or 31% which showed just abit more then 1/2 a tank. I had run 110 miles with JB4 with multiple spirited WOT before this and just had to know what the pull felt like having had a 750HP Vette previously. Tho not the same I can say it was exhilarating nonetheless lol.
Preemptive.. maybe... I added more 93 after my 3 WOT bursts. But I just had to know what it was capable of. Next on the list is an Aqua mist with Trunk mounted meth tank. FMIC should be here any day and then i'lll add the BMS flash and go RB turbo upgrade with charge pipe. My question for the experts here is a BOV. I have read where this actually hinders HP.... thoughts? I don't care about sound, I want Ponies, and the most I can get. Sorry to offend the purists, but sometimes you just have to stretch the envelope. |

When I first started looking into upgrades Vishnu Single turbo was 1st on my list with precede. But then I read posts that challenged that thinking. I wont go into those other then to say that the JB4 and Terry CS rep added some serious street cred. And I have to say for a guy who had a Vette mechanic do all his work, when I decided to self install, Terry walked me thru on a Sunday.. a SUNDAY!. Speaks friggen volumes!
I know I will never get the same feel or sound from the 335i that I felt in my SC Vette but if I can smile when I hit it, that will be enuf. I learned that there are always those with more money and a superior mechanic. My Vette Mechanic had the fastest C6 record times but he is gone to Cali, my Vette was totaled and now I have a 335I which I love. The BMW is tight! Love that.... I'm a convert. So forgive my nebiness. |

Coming from the vette a lsd should be on your short list. I'm a huge fan of anything lsx but these cars are very impressive, in more ways than raw power too.

Lookin' good!
I honestly don't think you're jumping the gun at all with the E85 but I do think you should look into upgrading the LPFP and jump to a flash tune if you're ever going higher than 50% |
