Percent of Vehicles Still on Road
This is from a Canadian study. I'm assuming the US would look similar. Anyone know where I could find this information for US?
![]() I'm curious how the e9x N55/54/52/51 would look like as the years progressed. edit: This data was gathered in 2010. This reversed graph may be easier to grasp ![]() They explain why Porche is so high. In Canada, it is easier to import from US than to find one in Canada.

Porsches are typically driven a lot fewer miles per year. Mercedes offers much better parts support for older cars. My 2000 M Coupe was getting hard to find replacement parts for when I sold it last year.
Of course finding parts for better selling cars like the main line 3ers and 5ers should be easier. |

All this data shows is that Porsche, BMW, Mercedes, and Audis, and Lexus all follow the same curve. Meaning that being expensive luxury cars, the brand enjoys 2nd and 3rd tier ownership from people who have a desire to own such status symbol vehicles (regardless of age) but don't purchase them new.
Of the normal-priced car brands, Honda, Toyota, Ford, Chevy, etc., also all follow the same curve, showing that due to their low price, the extended follow-on ownership market is not as great because these brands are not status symbol cars. The price for new car ownership of these brands makes it more attractive to the buyer to buy new rather than used. These graphs are about ownership statistics, and do not have any reflection regarding the long-term reliability, or quality of design and manufacture. |

Toyota is actually the highest ranked among full line manufacturers. Here's a link to the full report: http://fleetbusiness.com/pdf/DD7.pdf
