Tire Pressure

Recently i was driving and the tire pressure monitor started to beep. I pulled over at the petrol station and my wheels seemed fine, when checking the pressure of the wheels my front was 40psi and rears were 34psi. My wheel size is 225/45R17 91V. I'm a bit confused on how much pressure should be in the wheels as some people say 32psi front 38psi rear. Does anyone know the recommended tire pressure?
Thanks in advance

38psi F & 40psi Rear or just 40 psi all round is what i use to run in my previous cars with 17" 45 series tyres

Recalibrate your TPMS and see if it happens again.

Austrlian delivered cars don't have a TPMS.
It's called RPA. And it's a completely different system to the TPMS in The states.

The recommendation of tyre pressures is on every car in Australia.
If you open your driver's door, it's located on the bottom of the B-pillar.

All you have to do is call BMW and give them your VIN number.
They will be able to check if yours needs to be done. And it will be free of charge.

Sorry to the OP but I investigated the recall issue mentioned here just in case it affected my car. What I found was the recall affects 2008-2012 1-Series coupes and convertibles manufactured December 2007 through July 2011; 2007-2011 3-Series coupes and convertibles manufactured March 2007 through July 2011; 2007-2011 3-Series sedans manufactured March 2007 through October 2011; 2007-2011 3-Series sports wagons manufactured March 2007 through June 2011; and 2009-2011 Z4 vehicles manufactured March 2009 through June 2011.

Hope this helps!

Ahhh I see you have the 91V. you are indeed very lucky that is the DTM road course tyre and the correct inflation for maximum grip and wear is 18.5 psi all round.

In fact the BMW works team have the 'polarizer' fitted to their car which enables them to run 14 psi and deliver enough grip to take the famous Nürburgrings' 95 degree off camber corner

What's this RPA thing if you don't mind me asking?

it was a tv show

as for tmps we have the basic system (no sensor in the wheel) that runs off the wheel bearing sensor to calculate if the rotational speed of one or more wheels is 'different' to when you set the tpms in idrive.

imho a simpler and still very efficient system

You have hang around the American forum too much. RPA stand for reifen pannen anzeige, means tyre puncture indicator. And it's the name they use when they first brought out the syetem. Later on, they have rename the function to "flat tyre monitor" or something like that in the idrive system as no one knows what RPA is for.

Australian cars has never use the name TPMS, nor does it ever come with that system.

And it's TPMS, not TMPS.

I have pretty much work for BMW from before they brough out the E9x models until after the introduction of the F30s. And I am trying to give out the right informations here to Australian BMW drivers.

May I ask what cause the recall of the battery?
(It looks like a common issue with the manufacturer design and that's why it's free of charge.)
And how do I notice it? (So that I can watch out when I test drive my next BMW)

It's never a problem in Australia. It's a precautious measure because the battery cable might have a defect and cause loss of battery power. Nothing to worry about, free of charge in BMW to get it replace with a new one anyway.
