Aftermarket water pump

I believe my water pump is about to go out. I'm getting a really loud noise that sounds like marbles in a jar. My question is if I should buy an aftermarket one? My car went out of warranty last month.

Normally that noise is related to vanos. The newest oem pump is the way to go.
You can test the pump with inpa.

My water pump was already replaced at 45k. So I hope it is vanos. How much is to get that repaired?

well you should get vanos codes if they are faulty.
easy to replace by yourself. check realoem for part number and price.

Here's a DIY on replacing the vanos: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=486201

Sometimes you can get away with just cleaning them but it's probably best to replace them. The part number is 11367585425 and RealOEM has them listed for around $118.

Will you hear the water pump if the car is at those temps?

You can barely hear the pump running full speed with the engine not running.

take it to a bmw shop and tell them to test the pump with their software. you can also do it yourself with inpa.

Is under actuations . You need to test all pwm % requested with engine on . Especially max one . If you set 95% and it only goes like 80-85% than its on is way out

Our customers have had a lot of luck with the aftermarket VDO water pumps. They are great quality pumps for a bit less than the genuine pumps. Keep in mind you also need new install hardware as the bolts are torque to yield.

No coding is necessary on the N54 when changing the water pump.

Also , the new pumps use shorter bolts , dont forget that important matter , I got mine from ECS , but I got 2 sets of bolt , short and long. My thermostat was busted so I got one from Europe dirt cheap ...

hmmm,

sounds like a bad A/C pulley maybe?

I had a noise not as bad, but it was a bolt that was left behind from my WG fix at the dealer. The bolt was hitting the fan blade. damn dealer... no harm no foul.

If that's the case, do I have to change the compressor?
