Is this a good price ?
Guys I always wanted a 335d or e-class bluetec, couldn't find one in my price so a month ago I picked up a 335i E90 ... Now there's one with 40k miles for 18 grand WTF... Is this a fair price or there's something wrong with the car, its a 2010, standard non-sport ...

Check into the history of that car. Something seems off.

Man it must be a car with absolutely no options and been used as a loaner vehicle at the stealership. Must of gotten into an accident or two and all fixed up now. Dirt cheap though.

He told me there's an accident the rear bumper was replaced, its probably more than that, he doesn;t have the insurance claim (yeh right) .. anyway I'm going to get it inspected but should I go ahead and buy it ? I have a white E90 335i with sport Nav, is the fuel economy from 335i way better ? this one has no options is silver/black has 40k miles

I had a 335xi as a loaner that I got 18.6mpg driving the same way as my D, which gets 26.5 for the route I take. So given that the xi gets 1mpg worse than a 335i, you are looking at (for me) 26.5mpg versus 19.6mpg, or a 26% difference. Do I think the gas mileage is worth it? It helps, but I didn't buy a 55k car to worry about the gas mileage.
In this case, walk away man, there is something real bad wrong. The devil you know is better than the devil you dont. If your 335i has no problems, you KNOW it has no problems. God only knows what could be wrong with a 3 year old 335d for 18k...

I get 325 - 350 miles from a tank on my 335i - the things I'm "scared" about on that car are:
1- known serpentine belt issue that gets into the crankshaft and requires engine build 2- known water pump failure 3- Car throws some code when pushed to limits, restart fixes it though.. Here's the VIN of the diesel, WBAPN7C54AA266761if someone could pull service records or features this thing has - thanks |

i switched from a fast modded e92 335i to my 335d, sure the power is a little down, but i am loving the gas mileage. And you can get diesel cheaper than regular!
If you have long commute I would get it. 18k though sounds too good to be true.

The most risky time for buying a car is when you "have the fever" for the car. You tend to ignore warning signs. In the mid 1970's I was living in Germany and was the owner of a 1971 BMW 2002 that was getting up there in mileage. I kinda had the fever for a Porsche. There was a used 1970 911e for sale. Color was what was called Blood Orange; better looking than it sounds. Hydropneumatic struts, mechanical fuel injection. The things that were clearly wrong were: (1) needed new heater boxes, (2) as I recall on of the fenders was a slightly different color, (3) the front struts were a bit weird but I didn't know why, and (4) the oil level gauge didn't work. Yes, it was oil level. Anyway, I decided to buy it anyway. The car was great fun and a chick magnet, but it ended up costing me an arm and a leg to replace the heater boxes and the struts. But worse than anything was when I was coming back from down south on the autobahn and was cruising about 125 mph. A nasty sound occurred, I put in the clutch, and coasted to a stop a ways down the road. I had to sell my BMW 2002 to get the engine repaired. Be wary of the fever.

My son has a 335i Coupe; my 335d gets at least 5 mpg better than his car (in a non-city environment that could be characterized as 1/3, 1/3, 1/3 city/arterial/freeway). On straight highway, I can get up to 10 mpg better.

The big kicker on this one is that the firewall/left frame rail (note area just behind the tire) is damaged. The firewall is the main structural element of the front of the car, and requires specialized tools and jigs to properly repair. Depending upon what is needed, it could go much higher. |
