remaps ??

Who has actually had a remap ??
A friend of mine has had his 535 d touring remaped the cost was circa £850 ,he claims it 340 bhp and gets better fuel consumption ? and its undetectable for warrenty issues ??
I have spoken to a bmw tech and he claims that it would be spotted 100% no doubt about it 100%
And his respose is that BMW spend millions of pounds on R and D to get a map in your cars that works best across the whole engine driving conditions etc fuel economy and he said in certain applications he didnt doubt there would be possible benefits but the implications of warrenty being void ?
Im wondering who has actually gone down this road and what have they gained and also lost ie 40 plus bhp but fuel economy dropped by x

Ive had my 320d E90 remapped with bhp up from 163 to approx 200 and torque up to about 400nm. The difference in response is dramatic with much smoother power delivery and no flat spots.

My car has been in to BMW for normal servicing and has even had its service indicator software upgraded..... no issues about detection at all. I have however declared it to my insurers.... only cost an extra £50 on the premium.

Who are your insurers? ( as I'm sure some companies won't like non-oem)

Had my 330D E46 remapped by DMS.
I never paid anywhere near £850 mind you.
I'm always loathe to quote performance figures (except in jest) in case of being seriously flamed by others far more knowledgable then me about remaps.
My standard car started out at 204bhp & I have been told that has risen to about 240-250bhp,all I know is it goes like the proverbial shit off a shovel!

As for MPG, well I would say that if one shows restraint with the right foot that MPG has improved, especially on long motorway runs.

As for BMW detecting the remap, well I'm sure that if they went looking for signs of a remap, they would find it, as for warranty, well it could count against you if BMW were to argue that the remap had caused whatever the problem was.

If warranty issues worry you, a remap is probably not wise

Which remap is it? What's it like at 4,500rpm?

It was remapped by Simon at Emaps... top bloke who knows his stuff. Check out the threads on remaps on BMWLand forum.

Its more a question of what its like getting up to 4500rpm rather than at 4500rpm. The car just pulls and pulls in a straight line graph... no flat spots with very smooth power delivery all the way up. Puts a smile on my face every time I have a play.

I've spoken to Simon a couple of times, and he certainly is likeable and knowledgable. A couple of blokes I know from the VAG scene REALLY rate him and knowing them, that's more than enough for me.

The lack of switchable maps has always made me steer away though.

I just wondered if a "proper" remap extended the revs at all, that's all.

Phil,if you do look at having yours remapped give me a shout and we might get a discount for having the two done

I've had the DMS remap done on my 335D Touring. Worth every penny , and it was a lot less than £850.
I get no less than 34mpg and if i take it steady get 38/40 now ( 9000 on the clock ). The car runs like a dream , performance is similar to an E46 M3 too.

As for BMW being able to find the remap , i dont really know , though i had a 535 DMS before and had it serviced twice at a dealer with no trouble what soever.

My experience is that they don't really. Might get a discount out of eMaps if we were to ask him to travel up.

BUT, I have a Steinbauer P-Box half connected up, so I shouldn't need a remap...

I thought DMS offer a forum discount if you go to them ? If not from here then BMWland...500 squid as opposed to 800 or something in those ballparks?

Sorry E92Fan, is that BMW Car Club GB or BMW Land members? Price reduction sounds tempting and would bring DMS into line with their competitors - with their customer service it's then a no brainer IMHO.
