Flex Fuel, codes 10700, 10703, 10704, 12543
So, it seems that I am getting some cylinder misfires. Under full bore acceleration, I do not get these codes thrown. It is only when I am going highway speed from 4th to 6th gear at moderate boost levels sustained for a few seconds. Once the limp mode happens, the car does not feel any shower, and everything behaves exactly the same.
I haven't felt any slowness, and I do not notice any abnormal behavior in driving. I also have new spark plugs and my coils did not migrate any codes. I am not sure what is going on. Anyone have any ideas? It's a bit of an annoying problem insofar as the engine keeps throwing the code, but I have not been able to localize the problem whatsoever. It has only been doing it for the last week or so. |

Here, let me help you out:
I think that the misfire codes most likely are older codes that did not happen with the recent events. They come from when I put a fuel too rich in ethanol in the car, and the fuel pumps couldn't handle the flow at higher RPMs, so it had a fuel cutoff and I misfired my way to a safe place to restart the engine. I never bothered to remove the codes, though. So, I'm thinking, ONLY code 12543 I am pulling right now. Boost leak? Full boost doesn't do it, though. Just long term moderate boost (such as a highway pass). |

code 12543 = 30FF in hex. According to the BT code list " 30FF, Exhaust fume turbocharger low side. EXPLANATION: Boost under target. FIX: Check for boost leaks, and consult with your tuner."
See attachment in the first post- http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=264464 It's also possible that at sustained partial boost the procede is altering the airflow seen by the DME during spoolup to the point where it's seeing something unexpected, so it throws a code. Does the car still feel like it has normal power? |

Yeah, the car feels like it has normal power, even after it throws the error. I'm not noticing any reduced power, which is the weird thing.
Also, thanks for the link to the codes. I think I am going to get a compact tool like that. Hauling out my laptop to hook up to the USB is kind of inconvenient. |

I've been told that it is possibly a software issue with the way the car interacts with Procede and that there will be a firmware update. I can't wait for the new firmware, that's for sure. It makes highway drives annoying seeing the engine error thing pop up all the time.

UPDATE: Shiv is in possession of my car as we speak (dropped it off today). He is performing more tweaking and testing for the E85 Maps and firmware, so I assume the updates should be available soon.

Awesome! Thanks for the information. I am glad it is not yet another hardware fault. I've been spending the last few months slowly fixing every last thing

Nice!
One of these days I would to check out your clutch setup. How do you like it in terms of drivability and noise?

Saw your car at FFTEC on Thursday. Shiv had just returned from driving it. He was pretty excited.

Hey guys. More information here.
I noticed that the engine error on the Flex Fuel map (Map 3 in this case) seems to be loosely associated with the noticeable presence of "blips" under full throttle. I only noticed this when being at high altitude. These blips are associated with a subtle, single-pulse jerk that happens at semirandom intervals during the throttle time. However, I did a 0-150 mph on a private strip the other day and the error never showed up. Car was rock solid, Flex Fuel Map 3. I am thinking that these blips only happen at lower RPMs on high boost. Since the 0-150 was mostly high RPMs, maybe no codes were thrown. It was also in less than ideal conditions (103F outside temperature, 4000 ft elevation, 0% E85) Additionally, on Map 0, with just the Procede Flash doing its thing, I never get any sort of engine error. There are also no "blips" present under hard acceleration. I am debating on whether it is a hardware issue or software issue, or both. Since I am currently on no E85 whatsoever, I might test out the behavior in maps 1 and 2 to see if anything changes. This might also be an unrelated problem, but I was getting a rough idle that threw an SES light today. I took the engine covers off, nudged down the ignition coils (didn't really feel them budge though), put everything back on, and the idle was smooth again. Do ignition coils tend to get loose? Is that even a thing? |

More flex fuel errors to report. My car suddenly got a very rough idle and the exhaust smells different. I can't quite explain how different it smells.
Codes 10700 10796 10705. Upon google searching for the problem I landed back on my own thread. Maybe someone can assist. Idle is rough, acceleration is rough, and I don want to harm the engine any more than running the engine is already doing. Does anyone have any ideas what is going on? |

It looks like it might be a fuel mixture problem. I don't know why the problem came up now. I've been running the car like this for over a year, barely-used coils and plugs, fresh oil. Not sure what else I can do.

Bump. It seemed to happen at cold temperatures, so maybe I just need to get the new flash. Unfortunately, don't really have the resources to do so.
