335i Brake Rotors

Quick Poll for the 335i owners, just wondering what type of brake rotors you will be using when it's time to replace them or for those looking for upgraded performance and aesthetics before that time is due what are you looking at.

This is BMR's current range of brake rotors for the 335i in the poll. If there is strong demand for one type I can bulk order and offer a nice discount to the forum. Also just want some opinions from owners so I can tailor products to the market better.

All rotors are the OEM size of 348mm x 30mm

1. Standard rotor. Whether genuine or OE equivalent. Will look the same and perform the same.
2. Front Rotors from the Z4 35is - an upgrade over stock 335i rotors as they offer an aluminium hat (looks much nicer) and are nearly 1.5kg lighter per rotor, however the face of the rotor has no cross drilling or slots.
3. Cross Drilled & Slotted rotors. Whilst these rotors are one piece, they will look nicer with the cross drilling and slots. There are performance gains to be had with better cooling.
4. Slotted rotors. For those not wanting cross drilled, but still an upgrade in performance and aesthetics from stock

Of course price will be a factor, but for this poll, assume they are all the same or similar price.

Your input is appreciated.

Great timing Stu, as I am looking for a set of front rotors + pad shortly after I come back from HK.

I am reviewing both ECS and Stoptech kits at the moment. From what I have researched the upgrade brake kits by Stoptech seems offer the best bfyb, and it also comes with black coloured hats which means I don't have to put up with those tedious annoying rust.

The rotors from the Z4 35is is very tempting as well, as it is 1.5kg lighter as you had mentioned.

I would vote both the Z4 35is rotors and the crossed drilled + slotted. But I'm leaning towards crossed drilled + slotted atm.

Interesting, I'm currently doing the exact same thing.

Not that i will be changing anytime soon but for me i think those slotted/x drilled rotors look cheesy, i have never had an issue with fade/glazing with conventional rotors on the bbk with my previous car.

Sometimes the slotted rotors can cause extra nvh, which kinda negates the pros of these rotors in a daily driven car..

In this scenario the Z4 rotors is what i would be looking at depending on how much extra they cost over oem.

Agree as I won't be taking the car to the track, so NVH important. Definitely the Z4 with hats (will this reduce dust on rim?). As soon as I need to machine or replace rotors, this will be when I look at these.

Also - may look at better looking calipers, but unlikely given the cost. 1M or 135 'BMW' calipers?

On your car you need 135i rotors.. much better choice and selection

1. Should actually be Z4 35is rotors.

135 calipers may look better, but the rotors are slightly smaller at 330mm

Interesting, never felt any difference when using slotted rotors nor heard any negative feedback about them.

Interesting. Do you have any links to those reviews? I have read a few reviews here and the general census on the stoptech were that they are just as good as the ecs rotors.

I should be replacing mine soon. I'd be looking at the Z4 35is rotors just for the advantage of the aluminium hat and the weight saving. They seem to be only a little more expensive than OEM 335i rotors; and I can live without the cross drilling or slots.

Yes they can crack when cheaply made, or exposed to constant high temperature on the track, but should be absolutely fine for street usage.

There are a dimpled and slotted variety around which addresses these concerns, however I haven't looked to see if they are available on our bimmers.

If it's not OEM products, I will never buy cross drilled but by saying that I will NEVER buy cross drilled if I have a choice. It is not worth the risk.

I am currently using slotted and dimpled rotors.

IMO, Best is still blank but they don't look cool and nice . I prefer slotted & dimpled or slotted for street use purely for looks.

Bought Zimmerman OEM blanks. Absolutely perfect. I only use them with Hawk HT-10 pads at the track!

Did the Z4 35is discs ever take off Stu? I just checked your site but couldn't see any listed...

I'm now in the market for a set of front discs and tossing up between the Z4 35is and some DBA4000's.

Do you know how much are the DBA4000? I was chatting with Stu this afternoon at Advan and the pricing on those Z4 35is disc are not cheap.
