335i Car PC Installation step by step
Hi
I'm going to solve my gauges, PROcede reader and Valentine One remote display issues. My final decision is to go with a car pc. Functions: - Display additional gauges - Run PROcede software - Valentine One remote display - ODBII software - TV / DVD player - other On the first picture you see the core system components: - Mainboard - Hard Disk The mouse / keyboard will be replaced from a 7" touchscreen monitor device. Operating system is Windows XP professional. Just installing the operating system. ![]() I'll keep you informed. - Eugen |

I've been planning on doing this for a while but the only part slowing me down is the screen...where are you going to put the screen? I figured just wait another year or so and there'll be a good number of E90/92's in the junkyards and just pull out a iDrive dashboard and put my own screen in there.... Also, don't know if you've seen it or not but http://www.mp3car.com has tons of great info if you need anything.....I put one in my Nissan Frontier and loved it! Edit: O yea, for the mouse, I took apart a trackball mouse and reinstalled it under my center console so there was just a little ball sticking out and then cut some more pieces out to install the buttons....It was faster and easy to use while driving.... |

- There will be no group buy but I document the installation step by step here - The motherboard is a VIA EPIA Pico-ITX - You can display the Valentine One remote on a PC. The Valentine One will be stealth-mounted in the bumper - You will be surprised about the monitor installation ![]() Cheers Eugen |

Good start eugen!
I wish the pico-ITX mobo's existed back when i did my last carPC... I used a mobo out of a shuttle cube PC This was the Custom CarPC that I build and fabricated for my last car (2000 e46 323i) I customed fabbed the in-dash dvd and touchscreen. It did pretty much everything you can think of... DVD, GPS, XM Radio, etc... etc... the computer was hidden behind the side panels in the trunk, it was a p4 2.4ghz with a gig of ram ![]() It was even intergrated with the I-Bus and steering wheel controls! I could use streering wheel controls to do other things on the PC too, like toggle between the GPS screen and the Media screen I sold the entire setup for twice the $$ I had in it to a guy that used it to start a company selling these as complete kits for e46 bmw's... not sure if he ever did. Here are the pics: Last edited by RiXst3r; 09-25-2007 at 09:05 PM.. |
