Arrow Motor oils

I was wondering if you can you TWS Motorsport 10W-60 as part of your interval service between recommended dealer services. Yes I know your supposed to follow your "per warranty" oil BMW Long life 5W-30, but is there a difference besides vescosity. What the difference between the dealers motoroil and Mobil 1??

A 10w60 will rob you of power, one difference.

I'd use Amsoil 5w40 euro formula in your bmw. I use 0w30 Amsoil in my twin turbo GTO.

I recently read Car& Driver article on the BMW Twin turbo, They also noted the very high temp. They question why BMW recommended it's 5W-30 rather that the 10W-60(Castrol TWS Motorsport) as in there "M" cars?? Has everyone read that article??. Why is the TWS Motorsport recommended for the "M" series, isn't the 335 in the same category as far as "High Performance" ?

I also have couple of friends that run 10W-60 oil in there 335's, but I am concerned the thickness of the oil won't lubricate the turbos properly. One of friends said claims significantly cooler oil temps using this oil, I would like to try it but I am concerned about a voided warranty should something go wrong. I hate to have them say your warranty is voided. But then again
using RLI Biosyn, Red Line, RP, pp, GC , Amsoil ect... in would do the same thing. I guess we will have to wait and see when owners complain when the turbos go out???

Where did you get this info? I think its a rumor going around the boards. Because when I go to the mobile 1 website it recommends 10W40. Even though it shouldn't make too much difference I would really like to find out where the 0W40 came from.

Edit:

Nevermind, I must be working too late or need to get my eyes checked. It does say 0W40

I'd just use 5W-30 if I were you.
or 10W-30
or 10W-40 (no thicker than that).

If you live in cold climates (sub freezing temps) then go to:
0W-30 for the winter months if need be.

Mobil 1 0w-40 is BMW LL-01 rated and is perfect for the 335 until we get some BMW LL-04 available in the US.

I'm told GC 0w30 (Syntech Edge) is factory fill in Europe. Perhaps e.n335 can confirm? BMW LL-01 is printed right on the bottle and so this oil will not void your warranty. GC 0w30 is a thick 30w oil and is what I use. It's available at your local Autozone for $6.19/quart. GC 0w40 is BMW LL-04 but I can’t find it here yet.

RLI Biosyn has been used with great success in Audi direct injection engines to combat fuel dilution. There is a TON of good information over at the following site: www.bobistheoilguy.com. Under the European Import motor oils there are two stickies about GC and why it’s considered superior to the domestic Castrol so-called synthetics. A lot of these guys are chemists and engineers and know what they are talking about. A really good read would be the sticky at the top of the Used Oil Analysis – Gasoline “Double-Super-Secret 5w40 Audi Racing Oil.”

FYI, the 10W-60 Castrol TWS is made especially for the M engines since the piston speed of these engines are astronomically high. We're talking 25m/s !!! 20m/s is already critical on the oil to lube the piston. The 335i has a stroke of 84mm equals a piston speed of 19,6m/s at 7000rpm. Pretty high! If you're concerned with heat, use Red Line 5W-40, since it contains polyol ester base stocks! Best thing that can happen to your oil. If you stay within the viscosity recommended, they can't void the warranty!
Check out this thread as well.

Hi,
I am new to this forum but got 3 BMW (z3, e46, and now 335i coupe) also a Porsche Boxster. I always change oil myself and use either Castrol or Mobil 1 5-30. Never had any problem. never have to add oil between oil change ( i do check once a week). For my 335i, I just change oil 1st time at 1500 miles used mobil 1 5-30 (7 qts). the oil meter now show about 230 F (about 240 F all the times before oil change)
So, for me I think 5-30 is ok for 335i

We use ELF Solaris LSX 5w-30 which is BMW LL-04 rated. We use to use the BMW Castrol 5w-30 but found out the US version doesn't even have a LL rating. The Castrol made in Europe is far superior than the US version.

ELF is a premium synthetic engine oil. It retails for $13.00 a liter but we sell it for $6.50 a liter.

Maybe you can import a bunch of Castrol Edge Sport 0w40 (BMW LL-04) for us?

I'm going for Castrol EDGE Sport 0W-40, its retailing for about $30/liter here :/

It's LL04 and ACEA C3 (for DPF) approved.
