HD Radio Stations

Has anyone figured out how to access the alternate HD stations in cars that have an HD radio and no navigation screen/iDrive controller?

On my other BMW, I have iDrive and when I access certain radio stations, there appears next to the station identifier a little folder or sheet of paper icon. If I press the iDrive controller, the screen displays several alternate HD stations that all have the same frequency identifiers. For example, the station 96.5 seems to have and HD1 and HD2 version. In my 5er, I can access and store the HD2 version in my station presets. I cannot seem to even get to the HD2 version in my 3er, even though it has an HD radio.

i am at work but IIRC, highlight the station and click the iDrive controller to the right twice? You should get to the menu that allows you to store a station, delete, and then select HD1 or HD2.

If i am wrong i apologize. I'll check it out tonight when i get off work.

TY for trying to help. I appreciate it.

Did you miss the part about " in cars that have an HD radio and no navigation screen/iDrive controller?"

When you are receiving the HD signal, hit the button on the far right that says "list" and it will bring up the numbers 1, 2, 3 etc. Pick a different number than 1 and you will be listening to an alternative HD channel of that particular station.

With FM as the source mode, hit the settings button and make sure that HD is checked as an option. Then as the poster above states, when a station has multiple channels there will be a soft key for LIST, hit that and select the station you want to hear.

EDIT: you can save HD radio stations as presets too so you don't have to hit list and select a sub-station every time. Once the station is playing just save the preset as normal.

I appreciate the suggestion; however, I drove the car again today and noticed that there is no button or light that says "List" when the radio is on. That word only appears when I am playing my iPod. The radio station I was testing your suggestion with was indicated as HD1.

I haven't messed with the HD channels in a while. Maybe that's how it works on older software? I noticed today that sometimes I have to hit info to get additional infor on the radio station, and then sometimes it just does a crawl across the screen on its own.

I haven't noticed that exactly. On mine, if info is available, it crawls. If it doesn't crawl, it's not available.

Based on what you're saying, and my own observation, and assuming the radio in my car is the same as in yours, it seems like it might depend on the radio station rather than on the radio.

HD Radio - big disappointment.

One would think that in NY Metro area that coverage would be sufficient.

Yet I find the radio switching in and out of the HD signal all too frequently. Especially annoying on AM Radio. Has happened with 2 different BMWs, and one Toyota.

Sirius is better.

Hmmm...we have an abundance of HD stations here in DC.
