Let's Talk Performance Tires

well normally when I mod my car I know exactly what I want and I do my own thing but since I recently moved to a 335i I need some insight from others. I've ran Hankook V12s for quite a while, had a stanced car for the last couple years and it's time to get back onto my performance game. Most likely looking to stay at 18's this time around, also the car will have FBO + possibly meth. To my knowledge V12s aren't going to cut it.

My options I've been looking at are:

-Continetal Extreme Contact DW
-Nitto NT05
-Hankook RS3
-Dunlop Direzza ZII

Each have their own pros and cons. Life span and performance are my two biggest factors. I live in Cali so it doesn't rain very often here, but I don't want a tire that will send me flying off the road because its a little wet... Last but not least youre probably wondering why not get Michelins, well because I have them on the porsche and theyre great but idk if theyre really worth the money. Let me know your input and why!

What about Michelin PSSes? Got them on my car once I got my Forgestars and they're amazing and seem to live up to what everybody on the board recommended to me, plus reviews on the web. They're pricey, but I think it's the best tire for summer, can't tell about wet performance because Cali is Cali.

I went with Bridgestone Potenza S-04 Pole Position. Haven't tracked/autocrossed them yet but they are much cheaper than PSS and seem like great value

I have to say my Nitto Invo provide fine brat traction and hold up pretty damn good! Going back to PSS only because I can't find Nitto in the size I need....Nitto has a bit more road feedback...PSS might be a bit more comfortable.

Out of the 2, the ZII and DW perform very well in the rain. RS3 is a nightmare if it's cold or wet. RS3 requires a lot of heat, NT05 provides great dry grip. ZII is very responsive, they perform great in both dry and wet, provide very good feedback in your hands and require more precise driving. DW is nowhere as grippy than the rest of the list in the dry, however, they feel good at the limits. They are the best in the wet. If I were to choose, I'd get the ZII, also good for cars that are camber challenged. RS3 is great for hot days, they work very well in the heat (possibly best ones on the list on track).

I've ran all the tires, speaking with experience.

ZII seemed to be the best out of them from what I've experienced/read. You have a rough idea on how fast they wear?

They wear great. Nowhere as much camber wear like I got on the RS3. I have over 160 runs on the ZII in autocross and they still have a lot of life left, RS3's shoulders would have been done by now.

loved my pss great in wet or dry. starspecs were a bit scary in the rain but phenomenal in the dry.

Out of the ones you have, i will go with the Direzza ZII. Have tried both the Z1 star spec and ZII on my NSX and they are phenomenal. HOWEVER, they do wear quite a bit faster than the other tires i have tried with the NSX (AD08, RE-11, Toyo R1R, R888). I think they were awesome in the rain, not as good as PSS for sure, but are probably not far off. Good Luck and have fun researching and shopping!!

I have the S-04's and I love them. I like them much better than the Conti DW's.

As far as tire life is concerned, here are the UTQG treadwear ratings for those tires. Higher number means tire wears slower/last longer.

Continental Extreme Contact DW - 340
Nitto NT05 - 200 (found from a google search, so I can't verify)
Hankook RS3 - 200 (225/40/18) and 140 (255/35/18)
Dunlop Direzza ZII - 200

Continental DWs will perform well in the wet and should last pretty long if your alignment is good. The ZIIs are a pretty solid choice for a more hardcore option though. Have you considered the Bridgestone RE-11?

If your pockets are deep, Michelin PSS. Hands down best tires (IMO) for our cars. Hooking all the way through first gear and i'm FBO, FTW.

I've also heard great things about the Dunflop ZII's.
