Vibration when braking at high speeds
Hi Guys,
Just looking for some pointers, basically steering wheel shakes when you brake at high speeds, had no work what so ever done on the brakes recently, only thing had done recently was a couple new front tyres, although i did hit a speedbump pretty hard a couple of weeks ago but since then had the wheel rebalanced but still no fix. Any ideas? I guess I have broke something? |

This is also true. I would look at the brake disks firat mate. Iv had it a few times with customers cars.
I knew it may be disks the second I read the title. And as the wheels have been rebalanced aswell it doesnt leave allot else for it ti be. |

Warped discs is very very rare.
People say 'oo i have warped discs' in actual fact, its pad transfer, which, is very very common and hugely mis-diagnosed as warped discs. To warp a disc you need to exceed normal operating temps by up to 5times, dont know about you, but not sure how many people do 100-0 stops daily? Probably pad transfer mate! ps. If it was warped it would do it all the time not just at high speed |

If thats the case, how do you get rid of pad transfer? And I have had warped discs without breaking as you explain. On almost new OEM discs. I took them to a brake specialist and he made them as "unwarped" as possible in a machine made specially for treating brake discs. It didn't last though and I'm getting new discs and pads next week.

Yeah obviously warping is possible, but its very very rare. You can true a disc up on a lathe or milling machine pretty accurately. |

It might be wrong bedding. I didn't treat them special in the begining. I drive alot of highway driving and not så much city driving with lot of breaking. but when I brake o nthe highway it sometimes is hard braking... :-| A milling machine!! I didn't know the word in english :-) but yes thats the thing :-) Thnx for the link :-)

Warped disks arent rare. Iv worked in two bmw garages and a mercedes garage and most cases of warped disks are people heavily braking on motorway exit lanes then sitting at a set of lights using the foot brake. Although its normally the spirited drivers that get that problem.
