Wait till red?

If your getting say 3 yellow warnings in the past week do you normally wait until they turn red before you get service?

I have a low engine coolant light, low washer fluid light (I have never used it at all) , and now a low oil level light.

Each of the lights comes on at random times, some when I start the car up others come on after a 20 min drive. I can confirm the oil is low since I did the computer check. but the coolant and washer fluid light are intermittent, I just added distilled water to the washer fluid the other day but to my amazement the light came back on.

Make an appointment and take it in as soon as you can. You shouldn't wait until the warnings are in red. That's what full maintenance is all about.

If a light comes on that means something is wrong. Why the **** would not fix something that is wrong with your car as quickly as possible? BTW it's incredibly easy to add washer fluid yourself and the gas to drive to the dealer probably costs more than the fluid. Oil is very easy to add as well but I would let the dealer do it due to the f'd up dipsticks we (don't) have.

I'm still trying to determine what all the loopholes are. So is this pretty much how the ultimate maintenance program works?

The only way the dealers will service anything for free is if one of the warning lights come on?

No, if anything is wrong they'll fix it. A light doesn't have to come on. i.e. if your rotors warp no light comes on but they still fix it because rotors are covered.

Sweet. By the way, how do you feel about your 328xi? Has there been anything they didn't cover for you yet, or gave you a hard time about?

I would take it to the dealer. Yellow means that it requires attention and you should have it looked at at your first opportunity. Red means that you have to stop whatever you're doing and have it fixed now! So dont take chances and just have the dealer take a look at the car.

See I dont know if this is just more computer glitches or if anything is wrong.... I really dont want to waste the time to get it fixed. So I figure yellow I am safe, it should last about 4 months until I get my first oil change right?

Last night I was driving and I had the low fluid lights on for engine and washer.. Well my low gas light when on and the other 2 warnings went away and never came back...

Dude think about this: would you rather waste some time and take it in now or wait until it freaking goes red on the day that you need it most? What if you're running late for an exam and you go turn on the engine and then BAM, ERROR!!!

Garage List
to me, red is when it is getting on to be too late... you don't want to go into the red with oils and such... it will kill your engine!

Btw, what is RTFM?

You should take it right away, why wait for the red light on...

Let me put it succinctly. Once the light is red you shouldn't drive the car (unless it's straight to the dealer for service and the dealer is close). Yellow means it's as low as it should be, fill 'er up, red is the, you're screwed now Johnny light. (Though it doesn't necessarily mean anything in broken...yet)

Now if it's a glitch, that different, but with both oil and coolant low don't you think you should go get things looked at?
