Has anyone installed AUTODAB on E9x with CIC
As above, has anyone installed Autodab in a car with CIC? If so does it work without any malfunctions?
I want to add DAB to mine and whilst coding is not a problem, I'm not keen on replacing the factory fit unit. I want to use the AUTODAB kit but then use the DAB diversity aerial as opposed to the revolting, windscreen mount aerial jobbie. Anyone know? |

Would be interested in this too as the windscreen aerial looks awful!

I Have fitted a few to cars with Cic and ccc.I assume you're talking about retrofit semi universal one from BMW?They work well and come up on the display as normal radio does. The aerial is pretty nasty though right enough!

It is an aftermarket kit but it works with the steering and I-drive wheel and apparently works really well. From what I understand the BMW kit is independently controlled via a remote, as opposed to the steering on I-drive wheel? Whilst the Autodab kit is known to work with CCC systems, there is nothing firm to say it works with CIC too. The manufacturer claims its compatible with all models after 2006. |

Ah yeah this ones different.the one I was on about is a BMW kit and comes with a little remote control.the wiring looks exactly the same though. It connects into the cars K bus so display works etc. They work on cars that have just a professional radio too.I can't comment on the one in the link though but looks very similar

Yes, I have!
Most of the description about fitting - and some other useful information reside on BMWLand's sadly defunct forum. It's a while since I fitted it and now the unit is (still) residing in my garage, in a box - more of which later . . . Fitting was pretty straightforward. The only issues were where to stash the box, as the leads aren't very long and space is tight behind the dash. Mine was stowed just to the right of the glovebox, behind the side panel. The plugs supplied are larger then the standard BMW ones, so, again, as things are snug, the wires do get a little kinked. Have you got Bluetooth? Fitting the unit meant that my Bluetooth didn't work - but it was just a case of swapping plugs about at the back of the "radio" unit - I can't remember which they were, but it all seemed logical when I thought about it. Things may have changed, but the fitting instructions were miserable - if I hadn't had experience taking off BMW trim and "radio" bits I may have struggled a little. I never got round to mounting my (sticky) aerial. I put the AutoDAB in as a trial, and got a good enough signal from the aerial laid on the dash, and in the position where I was going to mount it, which was in the rear side window (I have a Touring, so it wouldn't be seen in the back). So why is it in a box and not in the car??? I found that the AutoDAB seemed to degrade the FM signal, and whilst I got decent enough DAB here Shropshire, some of the radio stations I wanted to listen to aren't on DAB, so it kind of defeated the object. Don't discount the (active) sticky aerial (I got mine from dabonwheels too), as I was surprised at how good it was. Mike |

Great, thanks for that. A couple of further questions if you don't mind.
How do you control the dab stations, do you get any text on the cic display? Surprised about the fm signal, I thought the autodab system doesn't connect via the fm aerial so it should not be affected. |
