I just changed every fluid on the car to Amsoil. Wow! What a difference!

Car is smooth as silk.

Ive been using motul 300v 0-40 and its awsome cant hardly get oil temps to 240 and the oil temps go down very quickly.

Cant go wrong with either brand. IMO 300V is overkill for a street application, thats pretty much a race oil. Can get longer OCIs out of the xcess.

Im running Motul 5-40 and couldnt be happier.

I am running 5w - 40 European Blend. I also have a Dimple magnetic drain / fill plug for the diff, trans and oil.

Also put a coolant boost in with the ams coolant.

I've been running 5w-40 amsoil euro formula for the past 3 years with no issues. I like their products (I'm not an amsoil fanboy), but they have never failed me in my cars or motorcycles. Don't be afraid. I'm actually sending my oil to Blackstone labs for analysis, so keep your eye out for a thread with the analysis in a few weeks

I personally use 300v 5w-40 and couldn't be happier =D start up of 0w is really not too common unless you use that oil in really cold conditions, takes it longer to warm up too.

Honestly ya, I really do think using 300v is overkill, but then again, i do drive hard and agressive sometimes and i want to best protection. I have seen VOA of 300v and their detergent and additives package is on par if not more than most of the oils out there. I change my oil every 7500km/6 months whichever comes first =P

Yeah, I know the enigine oil is good but i'm worrying about the ATF for transmission. I try to use Amsiol ATF but somebody said we have to stay with the gold-priced OEM AFT ($30/L).

I don't have an automatic, but I still opted for the OEM gear oil when doing the tranny. I did use Amsoil in my differentials though

I may switch to 300V from 8100 access....how much of a difference is there between the 2?

Rob any particular reason why you’re thinking about switching? Just curious. 300V is basically a race oil. IMO it’s just a waste of money compared to XCESS, which you can run for a longer OCI. Also for fellow 5W-40 folks, how do you guys feel about running that weight in the winter? I’m considering going back to OE 5W-30 when it gets cold out. Thoughts?

Considering it's only the difference between 0W & 5W at startup, it's not worth worrying about IMO. For example, my 335d gets parked in cold (well, only down to zero 0F or so) conditions and starts promptly using 5W-30.

In the 335i, the difference is actually not that significant. U might notice the car will rev just a tiny bit more smooth and oil consumption is definately lower. What made me changed to it is that it DID make a huge difference in my other vehicles.

My NSX and my E63 wagon was both noticably smoother, stronger, and revs faster. Placebo? Not when my buddy and girlfriend can also tell the difference. Girlfriend was sorta pissed and thought i did another expensive mod xD

So ya, 300v honestly as i say, DEFINATELY way overkill, can not do extended drain intervals, doesn't really feel too different on the street (varies from car to car), and will cost ya. Try it out once and see if its worth it!!

The 30 or 40 refers to the viscosity when the oil is fully warmed up. Besides that the 5W-40 takes a tad bit longer to fully warm up, it should not be too different. The 40 will provide better protection when the engine is running hot, seeing that my n54 is modded and tuned, i want that 40 protection when my car is fully warmed up regardless of winter of summer.

If you're confused or don't understand how oil works, do some reading online ;D have fun!

I understand the fundamentals, was just curious what others thought. There’s no reason why a change that small should cause issues, but I’ve never run Motul in the winter. Just have no first-hand experience with it when it's cold out

hmmm... all i can say is runs the same xD depends on how you drive and where you drive as well. Because I do mostly highway driving it takes a significantly faster time to warm up vs if i do city driving at lower inconsistant speeds. It makes sense to go with 30 if you have short commute and car wont have enough time to warm up.

Also just to add, synthetic oils nowadays should be quite advance and can offer protection and lubrication regardless of temperature. If you're worried, choose a oil that has crazy amount of VI. ENEOS Sustina (not the normal ENEOS) has one of the highest VI ratings i have EVER seen (I think all of them have more than 200+VI). good luck and have fun!
