jb4 with downpipes map 0 for service causes CEL
hello, sorry if this has been answered but i am a bit confused. i just got a jb4 and a set of downpipes. from my understanding map 0 is what you need to put it on when you go to service because thats the only way the OBDII port works. if you do that then when you go for service wont you get a check engine light from the downpipes?

I still think thats a terrible idea to show up to bmw with it in map 0. Bmw reps are not stupid; They know all the tricks and how these things work. All they have to do is do the basics for map switching to test if the car has a piggy back. For the procede you just push the cruise control up, down, in, or out and it will do something. I'm just not sure the commands on a jb4, but bmw reps just learn all this online the same way we would, so if you happen to get a smart rep that is not cool with it he can send your vin to bmwna and void that whole cars warranty. You have a few choices. 1) Put it in map 0 right when you get there and hope they dont take it for a ride. 2) Get the bms downpipe fix and run that when going to the dealer. 3) Remove the downpipe and install the stock downpipe to prevent the code from popping up. 4) remove the jb4 and downpipe for a piece of mind of not worrying about loosing your warranty or getting any aftermarket parts noticed and reported. I'd do option 4 if you care about your warranty. If you don't then it doesn't matter what option you do. Since your trying to put it in map 0 im guesing you do. This is why I tell people over and over with warranties that you should not install an offroad downpipe (If they are trying to keep their warranty). If You don't want to reinstall the stock pipe on every visit to bmw or pay for it to be removed then why did would you buy an Off Road Version of a downpipe and install it when you knew before hand that your risking your warranty. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

thank you, this is kind of what i was thinking, on there site it says to switch it to map 0 for service. if you dont have downpipes this isnt as bad since no code will show up, but with downpipes putting it on map 0 seems like a toss up whether or not the dp code will show up

With a DP fix it tricks the computer and makes it think that you have cats which is what prevents the codes from ever appearing. Just dont leave the dp fix on for long. I've heard its only good for temp situations like service, smog ect since it messes with the 02 signals which can mess up the air/fuel ratio ![]()

Someone with a jb4 that has done this would be able to help you more.

If you clear codes right before the visit, the CEL light won't show up until after you drive it for a bit. It really depends on what service you are having done. I left everything in for an oil change/low pressure fuel sensor replacement under CPO. Cleared codes right before drop off. Disabled steering wheel controls, put it in map 0. They didn't give me any problems. Now if the service is for something major, then yes it would be best to remove everything.

IIRC Set Future Use D = 1, set to 0 when you want to re-enable.
