My wastage rattle.

So my 07 335i with 54k has been having a rattle for the last 10k miles now. I called the dealership to have them see if it is covered and they said since my car has a rebuilt title from a an accident they wont cover it. Anyway around this? or am i going to just have to pay for new turbos myself?

Since when do recalls or warranty work have anything to do with the status of your title? And how do they know your title is rebuilt to begin with?

thats what i told them and he said it is not a recall it is just an extended factory warranty on a specific item. When he asked for the last 7 of my vin he was able to tell it as rebuilt

The rattle is usually the turbos... Does it normally just rattle on start up? There is an adjuster on the turbos that works the wastegate that can cause a rattle. Mine rattled for a month before I (BARELY) adjusted the set screw. I would be cautious if you go this route, and do as much research as possible.

It shouldn't hit the actual turbos. It actuates the wastegate that's built onto the turbos. (I hate this setup BTW) What causes the rattle usually is the bar just loosening up over time, and the wastegate flap doesn't completely shut (or open), which causes the rattle. So it's not the "Bar" but the flap itself causing the rattle.

If it's not your turbos... good luck figuring it out... and it sucks to hear about the dealer response.

the car seems to be running fine. it just the sound is annoying. u think if i pop off the bottom cover of the car i ca adjust the bar without having to take the turbos out. ?

It's a pain, but yes... now.. it's easy to screw them up. so deff do your research. It didn't cause any noticeable power losses for me, but it did eat up MPG and made my car sound like a turd at startup.
