How much are you paying for your oil changes?
I still want the dealer to do it through the 8/82, and my luck has not run out just yet. I did the $69.99, then a couple $57.95's, and when the $57.95 offer ran out I was seeing $99.99 which was not very appealing....I finally had to get a change in as I'd gone 8,100 (7,500 is my target but I doubt 600 more is that bad)....and today I got $79.99 with a free wash. Considering my rims were caked with brake dust, and my car was filthy (coworkers said dude we get that you work 14 hr. days, but wash your car). So imho the $79.99 was worth it.... They said $450 for plugs (3,300 countdown), but I will DIY over Labor Day.....

$35. Cost of Mobil 1 from Wally World and an OEM filter from ecstuning. 30 minutes of my time being with my car? Priceless.

$66 at Indy. My dealer has a deal for $66 but you have to buy 6 at once in advance I think it is.

I did ask what weight of Castrol they use and he said 5W-30... I did tell the SA that the M1 oil is LL-01 and he just laughed, said that Mobile 1 was crap oil?? (I disagree) |

I need to read the DIY on how to do it myself. I could change the oil on my other past cars easily, but they didn't require as many steps compared to the beemer. The closest dealer to me is an hour away and they charge around $70. I think doing that once every 7,500 miles isn't all that bad since I don't put more than 800-1,000 miles on her a month and it's mostly hwy driving/cruising.

Mobile 1 euro formula 0-40 $40-$45 Forget the brand of filter but I spend close to $20 on that. Worth it cause I can go about 10k without one and wal-mart does a 5 quart jug of that stuff that's cheaper than buying 5 separate quarts. Just some food for thought! |

In response to all the replies on my post, yes that is the 5-qt jug of 0w40 from Wal Mart for $23-ish. They are rarely in stock, so I buy several whenever they have them; I think I have 3 full bottles and a partially full one right now. I realize slightly more than 1 bottle is required, but I just fudged the math to $25 for that; mine doesn't require any oil in-between changes, so whatever I have left over is used on the next change.

1st off, as you stated; Mobil 1 0W-40 IS BMW LL-01 Approved - & I think BMW engineers know a leetle more than your SA... BMW Long-life rating LL-01 Approved Synthetic Oils for the US Market: * Castrol Syntec European Formula SAE 0W-30 (now called Castrol Edge with Syntec) * Mobil 1 SAE 0W-40 * Pennzoil Platinum European Formula Ultra SAE 5W-30 * Valvoline SynPower SAE 5W-30 ** There are other oils that are LL-01. I have never seen Castrol Syntec (or edge) Euro Formula oil in the 5W-30 (approved for BMW LL-01) variety on shelves at any of my local stores, or online, or directly from Castrol. If they are using the BMW branded 5W-30 oil (which is Castrol) - it must be that it is especially formulated for BMW. Standard Castrol Syntec 5W-30 oil that is available to consumers (other than from BMW dealer) is not BMW approved. http://www.castrolsyntec.com/Grades.aspx I use the Castrol Euro 0W-30 @ 7500mi in between the dealer oil changes. Also use the very same oil in Lingenfelter 427 in my TransAm for years - waaaaayyyyy more HP/TQ than my BMW. It gets 'abused' quite often & I have never had a problem...
